Fearless and Reckless 3- Chocolate Cake and Unsuspected Stipulations
After all the initiates jumped and the transfer initiates separated from the Dauntless initiates, Four showed us around the Dauntless compound. My eyes stared at Four's back as we followed behind him and I saw a tattoo peeking out of his shirt by his neck.
The hallways reminded me of a cave as we walked down them. They were dimly lit and at some points it would get so dark that you felt momentarily lost until you bumped into someone.
We walked into a place called the Pit and I looked around in amazement. It was like a giant cavern. Blue lamps were put in random places to light the Pit up and several pathways led into the Pit.
It buzzed with activity as a sea of people clad in black clothing. They spoke and shouted loudly with each other which reminded me how different Dauntless was from Amity where they would talk calmly but in the same carefree manner.
"If you follow me," Four spoke to us, "I'll show you the chasm."
We followed him down a stone pathway that had no railings as a few children ran past us with no care in the world. I grinned as I watched them. I would probably have been the same way if I grew up in Dauntless.
The sound of rushing water met my ears as we got closer to the iron barrier. I stood on the edge where the railing stopped and looked down. White raging water fell and hit the jagged rocks at the bottom. I never saw a waterfall before but the sound of the water felt calming in a way.
I felt a hand on my shoulder which caused me to turn my head and saw the owner of the hand was Four.
"The chasm reminds us that there's a fine line between bravery and idiocy!" Four shouted to all of us. "A daredevil jump off this ledge will end your life. It happened before and it will happen again. You've been warned."
Four the looked at me and spoke, "Try not to do anything reckless, Autumn."
I grinned in response and said, "Reckless is my middle name, so I can't keep any promises." He stared at me expressionless for a moment before squeezing my shoulder lightly and continuing onwards with the tour.
Four brought us to the dining hall where the Dauntless members that were already inside stood up and clapped when we walked in. I smiled as the same feeling from the Choosing Ceremony welled up inside me.
As I was getting food, I noticed there was a lot of things I've haven't eaten at Amity before so I grabbed as much food as I could. I held my tray full of food as I tried to find an open seat to sit at. I noticed there was open seats where Four and some of the other transfer initiates sat and quickly made my way over there.
"Is this seat taken?" I asked them referring to the seat across from Four. The Abnegation girl whom I met at school, Tris, smiled at me politely and shook her head in response to my question.
I put my tray on the table as I sat down. I glanced at all of the food in front of me as I tried to decide what to eat first.
"I didn't think you were such a glutton." I looked up at Four who stared at my tray of food before looking back at the food. "I'm not. I just haven't eaten any of this food before so I thought I should sample what I can." I responded as I picked up the circular pieces of bread with a meat patty in the middle and took a bite out of it.
"What kinds of food did they serve at Amity?" Tris asked me. I shrugged and said, "Mostly fruits and vegetables, but I guess Amity's specialty is bread. The pie there was pretty good though."
The Candor next to Tris, Christina, looked at me wearily. Candor didn't like Amity because Amity believed in peace and Candor thought that peace Amity talked about wasn't real peace or something along those lines.
