Why was it so dark?

Why was he in Smallville?

He couldn't see the place, but he could feel it.

He looked around, but the inky blackness wouldn't even let him see the hand in front of his face.

It had to be a dream.

He felt slight warmth on his neck and he turned around just as the darkness was dispelled and he was standing in the middle of a field. He could hear voices to his left. His gaze followed the sound and came to rest on the red truck and on her.

He remembered so clearly the words she had been saying that afternoon.

When you love someone you love every part of them

The scene shifted and he was in the Torch offices

Lana has a secret admirer and he is writing her poetry

He was in the loft.

Ask me not to go to Paris and I won't go

You have too many secrets

After a soft glow he was now in the Fortress of Solitude watching his past self

Jor-El I have to go back in time and save her

He was in the Torch office again

Chloe, Lex killed her before I can't take that chance again

He was back in loft watching another scene un fold between his past self and Lana

Tell me you don't love me

I don't love you

Another soft glow, he was still in the loft, but he could see that he had gone forward in time

Lex understands me

Lex is dangerous

At least he doesn't lie to me and keep secrets

He moved to the barn

Pete I don't think she will ever forgive me

He was in the loft again

I love you Lana, but I have to leave

I'll wait Clark.....I'll always be waiting

Clark's eyes flickered then he finally opened them. The room was filled with a soft glow coming through the balcony doors. It was a full moon tonight. He turned his head and looked at the slight outline of the moon, which he could see through the sheer curtains. He rubbed his hand over his eyes and let out a short sigh. He swung his legs slowly off the bed and looked back to see that the figure next to him was still asleep. Her breathing was still in the slow shallow rhythm of sleep. Clark wanted to touch her soft dark hair, but he didn't want to risk waking her up. He pulled on a t-shirt that was on the floor beside the bed.

He opened the balcony door and closed it gently behind him. It was such a long time ago, why were the dreams back. He looked down at the lights of the city and tried to hear if anything was out of the ordinary down there. No, tonight the city didn't need a hero. Nobody needed to be saved tonight, but he felt like he needed saving. Clark felt the sting behind his eyes. He felt the burning sensation in his chest.

There was a place he had to be tonight. He glanced at the still figure on the bed through the balcony doors. He looked into the night sky and took off from the balcony.

Two minutes later he landed in the soft wet grass. He closed his eyes and listened to the soft song of the night sky and let it soothe his pain.

And I'd give up forever to touch you

Cause I know that you feel me somehow

He moved forward slowly, his feet feeling as though they were weighed down by tones of lead, not that it would be a problem for him physically, but this was emotional lead starting from his heart.

You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be

And I don't want to go home right now

Clark passed the small gate in the cemetery. It was kept so neat and simple. He looked at all the tombstones and wondered at all the loved ones people had left here. He moved forward again, drawing in a deep breath.

And all I can taste is the moment

And all I can breathe is your life

Cause sooner or later its over

He felt the silent streams run down his face as he got closer. Why had this happened? He felt as though his heart would burst with so much pain.

I just don't want to miss you tonight

Clark finally stood before the tombstone that would haunt him forever. He couldn't help the roar of anguish that tore from his lips. It was seven years today.

And I don't want the would to see me

Cause I don't think that they'd understand

When everything is meant to be broken

I just want you to know who I am

He fell to his knees next to the stone and ran his fingers over it as the pain continued to shred his heart. Through blurred vision he read the stone.

Lana Lang

1980-1999

He looked at the special inscription that Jonathan had said Lana wanted to have put on the stone and his heart broke anew as he read it.

I waited
