As Cory sat on the couch in his living room, with a book in his hands, he heard a knock on the door.
"Probably just Cristal." He thought.
He got up and answered the door, only to find out it wasn't Cristal. It was a mailman.
"Delivery for the Stone home?"
"Uh, yeah." He said uncomfortably.
"Just sign here," the mailman said pointing to blank space. "Thank you and here you go."
The heaviness of the box caught Cory off guard and made him almost drop it. He shut the door after saying a quiet "bye" and sat back on the couch to open the unknown box.
"Hey, were you expecting a package?" He shouted to his sister who was upstairs styling her hair (or at least trying to).
"No, why? Did one come for me?
"Kind of, one came for 'the Stone home'."
"Have you opened it yet?" She said slightly wondering who would sent it (and why it was so hard to do her hair).
"No, not yet and there's nothing about who sent it. I'm going to open it." He went into the kitchen to grab a box cutter and back to the couch he went. He started opening the blue cardboard box with matte dusty purple tape. Inside it lay a sweet porcelain doll with curly blonde hair and rosy cheeks, which slightly resembled his sister, and a stick with a single fresh sprout near the top. The sprout was a nice green with a slight purple hue to it.
"So? What's in it?" Shouted his sister, interrupting in train of thought.
"A porcelain doll and a branch."
"What?" Kennedy said in confusion.
"I think the doll is for you or mom," Their mother was an avid collector of porcelain dolls but, when she was young, Kennedy had shown an interest in them as well. "I don't know who, or what for that matter, the stick is for." Cory said as he stared at it, examining the strange gift.
"Just leave them there, I'll look at them later."
For a while Cory just sat there looking over at the box, away from his book, every once in a while. Thinking about who could have sent this peculiar box with such unusual things inside of it.
He went to bed that night, not being able to get his mind off the box. It gave him a strange feeling. Something was weird about that box...So sorry that I haven't posted in such a long time! I just had really bad writer's block this whole time. I just forced my self to write this chapter so I'm sorry if it sucks. :•)
