"Look me in the eyes and tell me you never loved me!" I yell, my hair whipping around my face, my fists clenched by my sides. He stands a few feet away, looking out at the horizon from the rooftop with a stormy expression.
"I can't do that."
"Why can't you? Tell me you never loved me and make everything go away!" I scream, my lungs burning. His eyes turn to mine with a fierce expression.

"I always loved you," he replies, taking a step forward, as I instinctively step back.
"I always loved you, but I couldn't let myself open up. Look at how pretty you are, another guy would have snatched you up. Why was I lucky enough to have you?" Step forward, step backward.
"I loved you with all my heart."
"Don't lie to me," it comes out as a harsh whisper and stings my throat.

The words slice the air in half. Everything from his expression drains, and he starts forward to reach for me.
I take another step back. There's nothing there. The icy wind suddenly picks me up and I'm falling, falling, falling. Away from the terror and shock on his face, and towards sweet relief. I'm falling, and I don't mind.
