A/N: Your sporadic writer is back!! Here's a short story dedicated to one of my greatest friends, Theressa. Happy Birthday!! And to those who are also having their birthdays, enjoy your day!!

The Moment I Knew... (Minho)

She smiled at her friends, exchanging pleasantries as they greet her happy birthday. Her house was filled with several party goers, family relatives and friends. The atmosphere was all light and fun, laughter echoing in the hallway.

Multicolored streamers lined up the ceiling, there were blue and green lights on the walls, and the dining table was filled with various food on paper plates and drinks in red cups.

She walks around her house, her white flowy dress cascading down the marble floor. She was supposed to be in her happiest state of mind, excited for a brand-new chapter and celebration.

But it was quite the opposite. She was confused and worried. She was waiting, hoping, and expecting. Waiting for his arrival, hoping that he remembers and comes back with his ever-bright smile.

Expecting him to sweep her off the floor, wrap his arms around her petite body and whisper those things that make her giggle. She wanted all of those things but not everything she wanted was to become true.

Hours passed by, she kept waiting for him to arrive. Expecting the sound of his car, parking beside her yard. She smiled, forced and hid the pain, as people continue greeting her.

"Where is he? Is he coming? Running late?" They asked her endlessly, her mind worried that she'll lose it. Her heart, beating quickly, afraid of adding another scar to its collection.

She smiled at her friends, "Yeah. Running late. You know him." She laughs and excuses herself, walking around her house. The tears she was resiliently holding back, were almost falling like a waterfall.

"Don't worry. He'll come, Y/N." She looks up from the couch, her train of hopeless thoughts broken. It was Thomas, a close friend of him and her, smiling warmly.

She nods, showing the smallest of smiles and hanging on the thin hope that the man she was waiting for would arrive, greeting her with his dazzling bright smile.

He was usually late for their dates. It started with ten minutes late, then fifteen, twenty-five, forty-five, and with the worst-case scenario: an hour and thirty minutes late (happened on one of their monthsary dates).

She was disappointed then pissed off like crazy but after a while, she would just laugh at his embarrassed smile. It didn't matter if he was early or late, the most important thing is he eventually arrives and makes each of their date memorable in any possibility.

But that wasn't enough to reassure her worries and doubt. She wanted to believe that was the case, yet her mind kept going back to thought of him not arriving and leaving the girl in the white dress sitting on her stairs; waiting for someone who wouldn't come.

It was already 10:30PM, people were starting to leave and her hope was slowly wavering and disappearing. She was in the kitchen, picking up the empty plates, bottles, and cups. Her friends cleaning up the floor and washing the dishes.

Hey, he's going to arrive. Maybe he was working late then traffic caught him. One of her friends said making her slightly nod. She sighs, Well, it's getting late. You guys need to start going home. They all looked at her, worry and fear in their eyes, "Are you going to be alright?" She smiled at them, "Yes, I will." She wished she will.

It was 11:15PM as she lies down on her bed. She blinked back the tears, she ignored the breaking of her heart, and she decided that this the worst birthday ever.
