"Need somewhere to sit?"
A familiar voice came from behind me and I spun around, a tray of, if we're being honest, unappetizing looking food in my hands.
"Yes." I sighed, relieved. I had just exited the line where food is bought from the cafeteria, and the fact that Alex saved me from looking like an idiot and scanning the crowd of judgmental students was something I'd be forever thankful for.
I followed him over to a table near the windows of the cafeteria, and braced myself for being introduced to his girlfriend. As we approached, though, I noticed she wasn't there. But three other people were.
Alex sat down in an empty seat next to a girl with wavy red hair, and I followed suit, sitting next to him.
"Guys, this is Sam. She's new." Alex pointed at me with his thumb. I gave a smile to the table.
"So you were the lucky recipient of Alex's amazing and informational school tour. I'm Sadie." A girl with brown hair that was seated two seats to my left smiled at me, and I chuckled at her sarcasm.
"Nice to meet you. And actually, I found it helpful." I admitted to her.
Alex just threw a glare towards her. "My school tours are amazing," he paused. "Or should I put it in your own words, Sadie, and say that they're life changing?" he blinked several times dramatically for effect.
Okay, there was definitely more to that story. I made a mental note to ask about it later. Assuming I was going to be friends with these people.
Sadie just glared at Alex in return, and he laughed, apparently satisfied that he'd sufficiently embarrassed her.
"Anyway, Sam, that's Evan. He's a junior. But we let him sit with us." Alex pointed to a boy across the table from me. He was about to take a monstrous bite of his sandwich but stopped short when he realized he was being introduced to me. He gave me one of those two finger salute things that guys do and returned to eating. I couldn't blame him. I was dying to start eating, even if the food didn't look particularly tasty.
"And I'm Wanda. Now Al, let the poor girl eat." I looked to red haired girl that was seated next to Alex, and gave her a grateful grin. She smiled in return, and went back to picking at her pasta salad.
"Hey um, thanks for letting me sit with you guys." I said more to the table itself than to anyone in particular. I picked up a chicken finger from my tray and hesitantly dipped it in ranch.
"Don't worry we've all been in your shoes. We've all been new students here, and Alex has given us all a school tour at some point or another." Sadie was talking now, eating strawberries out of a tub of Cool Whip. There wasn't any whipped cream inside, I guess she was just reusing the container. Yay for her for reusing.
"Oh so you've all experienced The Tour." I nodded, and began to understand why all these people were friends. All because of Alex, it seemed.
"Yes indeedy." Wanda replied in a sing-song voice. "Aren't we lucky?"
My eyes widened at her completely obvious sarcasm and I laughed while looking at Alex. He just glared at Wanda with a blatantly annoyed expression.
"So Alex, where's Rosslyn?" Sadie asked, changing the subject. Ah, my thoughts exactly.
Alex looked up at her suddenly, and seemed slightly embarrassed by her question. I looked to Sadie and saw her staring him down. Okay, there was no way I could have predicted a conflict this soon. Wasn't everyone here supposed to be friends?
