The Slave Island

The cabin door creaked slightly as Nadine opened it just a crack to take a peek outside. Dawn was breaking, and Jay just left her about twenty minutes ago. She hoped he would not be back before noon. He usually stayed on deck for most of the day, especially after a long exhausting but satisfying night with her.

After a week she had been made his property, she finally figured out a pattern of his habits. He was a proud man who liked to conquer. Whenever she was not in the mood for his attention, she would resist and fight. It made him even more savage in attempt to defeat her into submissiveness. He would pull and push her around, play with her weaknesses and edge her relentlessly until she begged for his forgiveness and let her release.

Just like last night. She had been developing a habit for eavesdropping from the cabin's port hole. It seemed that the area above Jay's cabin was a favorite spot for the crew to sit, rest and share gossips. She found out that they were approaching an island called Arguy, where a famous slave merchant resides, and they would be dropping anchor before dawn.

Nadine debated with herself on what to do. If she tried to escape to the island, she might encounter another slave hunter who might catch and sell her. But she had to go. She could not stand a minute more being cooped out inside a small room in a pirate ship. Tears rolled down her cheek as she thought of how worried her parents and brother would be right now. She imagined her father would walk back and forth in his study, yelling at people, demanding a thorough search be conducted to find her.

That was when she finally made up her mind to go. Whatever obstacles she might encounter she would deal with it as she face them. She sorted Jay's things one more time deciding which she would absolutely need to aid her escape. When the night came, she acted especially resistant to his attentions. She even took the trouble to hide under the bed that caused him to look for her furiously and pulled her out by the ankles when he finally found her.

Her actions raised his heat to the extent of extreme wildness. Jay became a very hungry beast who devoured every inch of her body without giving her a chance even to breath. Nadine had never really known the meaning of pain before last night. When finally he was sated and fell asleep, she got out of bed and put a cold wet cloth on her skin to soothe the red marks and bruises.

Now, dressed carefully in Jay's clean cotton shirt and pants --she did not want to look like a beggar-- Nadine stepped silently out of the cabin. Her head was completely covered with a turban commonly used by pirates to hide her long hair. Another piece of cloth she found among Jay's clothing was used to bind her chest so now she looked like a very young man, if not a boy. She hoped it would make her safe while she searched for some means to help her return to her country.

Looking back into the cabin, her safe cocoon for the last week, she was tempted to cancel her plan to leave. But no. She would not be safe here for long now that they have arrived at their destination. He would give her away to satisfy his crew's lust and handed her cold-bloodedly to a slave merchant. She shrugged herself off and set her hearts to go on

Barefooted, her steps were silent across the ship. Nobody was in sight. Everyone must be gathered on deck preparing to go ashore. Passing by the galley she spotted a stack of hard breads for their breakfast. Nadine snapped a piece and stuffed it in her mouth. She would need her strength for the long day ahead.

She climbed up a ladder to the deck, carefully making sure she stayed out of sight. She wasn't really sure where to go. But she had roamed a passenger ship a few years before with her brother, she imagined it was not much different. Then she found what she was looking for.

The anchor was already let down, but nobody was guarding it. Nadine looked around her and climbed down the ship using the thick rope attached to the anchor. Raised in the country, she was used to climb trees, ropes and fences. So it was not very hard to let herself down and swam some distance to the shore. Thankfully the water near the shore was calm and relatively clean.

Once she reached the shore, she found a secured spot where she could hide herself until her clothes were dry. She knew her feminine curves looked very visible under wet clothes, which could blow her cover.

The day was so hot it did not take long for her clothes to dry. Nadine poked her head out of the hiding spot. Seeing no one around, she did not want to waste time and ran straight towards town. Afraid to look back, she imagined Jay had found her missing and was angrily yelling and barking orders for his crew to look for her.

She slowed down into small steps as she approached the crowded part of the city. Clutching her painful side and aware of the discomfort on her naked feet, she kept to the shadows carefully not to attract attentions.

She had imagined there would be some sort of magistrate or people of authority whom she could report her abduction and gave her a way to reach her country's embassy. But as she skirted the town, she became worried. None of the people looked like anyone in charge. They were either merchants, servants, slaves, or visitors--possibly slave buyers.

Nadine bit back the tears that threathened to fall. What could she do now? Who would help her? All her life she always had a child's faith that everything would go as planned and finally everyone would be happily ever after. But now that notion was shattered into pieces and left her in desperation.

Deep in thoughts, she did not realize she was walking across the horse's track in the middle of the town. Then all of sudden a loud neigh rang close to hear ear, followed by a crashing sound and a kick to her shoulder that pushed her sprawling on the ground.

Before she realized what happened, a voice boomed.

"WHO ARE YOU DARE TO DISTURB MY HORSE AND MY SERVANT?"
