Chapter 1, a.k.a April twelfth.
Scarlet's POV
"Shut the fuck up, mom. Just leave me alone." I yelled at my mother.
"That is no way to speak to your mother, Scarlet-Amy-Marie." She yelled back.
"And who said I give a shit!"
"Fine. Just go."
"Good. Im geting out of this shithole, you call a house."
I ran up the stairs to my bedroom. I grabbed my backpack and shoved some clothes in it. I also grabbed Static, my stuffed dog.
As soon as I packed my bag I climbed out the window in my room and walked down the street to my friend, Josh's, house.
I climbed the tree beside his house. Sitting on the end of one of the strong branches, I opened his window. The window opened silently. I climbed in and found Josh lying face down on his bed.
"I'm home, big bro." I said, scaring him half to death.
He fell off his bed laughing as soon as he relized it was me. Usually I would use the front door, but it was ten o'clock at night and didn't want to wake Josh's mother, Marry.
"You should be a spy, Scarlet." He said laughing.
"Why?" I asked, knowing the answer.
"Because you can sneak into places without being heard."
"I know. I'm talented."
He got up off the floor and gave me a hug. We sat on his bed and watched zombieland.
"OMG, its midnight." I said as soon as the movie finished. I got up and walked toward the door, picking up my backpack as I went.
"Love ya, sis." He said as I opened his bedroom door.
"Love you too bro."
I walked across the hall to the bedroom that Marry let me use any time I got in an argument.
The room is painted blood red and has skulls stenciled on it. In the room there is five beds. One for myself and the other four are for my siblings who live with my mother. There are two walk-in closets and two navy blue dressers, one for the girls and one for the boys. Above each bed, our names are stenciled on the wall in yellow paint. The room also had two bathrooms. Both bathrooms had a steam shower and three sinks with a large mirror over top of them.
I walked over to the bed with my name over it. I sat on the black and red quilt trying to hold back tears. I grabbed Static from my backpack and cried into my pillow. At the moment I wanted Caitlynn, Em, Dakota or Josh to be there comforting me.
All of a sudden I heard a knock at my door. I opened the door and was surprised to see my brother, Dakota. He saw tears in my eyes and gave me a huge hug.
"Was the fight really that bad?" He asked.
I nodded my head. "Why doesn't mom understand my choices? She said this happened to her when she was twelve."
"Mom is still depressed about Maggie."
Maggie was my little sister. She died last august at the age of ten, due to brain cancer. After two months everyone in my family, except my mother, got over the fact that she was gone. Finally in Feburary our mother acually kind of cared for us. Before that Marry cared for us unconditionally. Marry is the best person I know.
I let go of the hug and let Dakota into our room.
"Oh, and befor I forget," he started. "I woke up Josh, so he might be a little pissed off in the morning."
"It's ok, I've dealt with a pissed off Josh a few times." I said making Dakota laugh.
"Hey, technically its April thirteenth. Happy birthday, sis." He said giving me a birthday hug.
"Thanks, Dakota. I just wish the others were here."
"We can go get them in the morning, after we get some sleep."
"I'm good with that." I said yawning.
"Ok. See you in the morning then, sis."
"Right back at ya, bro." I would've said more but I knew he was asleep. Soon after I also fell asleep.
