Two days laterTwo days later and I'm standing in front of the floor length mirror dressed in a gold and what the Indians call a Lehenga. The skirt flows out beautifully, beads embroidered on it. It's light almost like silk.
The top part is tight on me but breathable, it's almost like a boob tube, that goes till below my breasts, just it actually has sleeves. It's short sleeved. The top part is also embroidered beautifully with beads. The gold oblique scarf with the gold embroidered edges are over one shoulder. My hair is straightened and the green streak is out. Some of my hair is swept to the side.
I am wearing gold bracelets and my neck is bare since I had nothing to wear with it.
My eyes are think with eyeliner and my lips are a glossy pink. My curves are very visible, literally because from right under my boobs till my hips are bare. My belly button is on show, showing off the belly piercing I have. I got that long ago but I never actually put anything in it in a long time.
I'm wearing flower patterned earrings that hang but don't drag my ears down.
I left my nails clear today but I still wore some gold strap two inch heels.
My heart won't beat slower, in fact its only going faster.
I hop down the stairs since Chris screamed that we weren't going to be on time if I don't come down immediately.
I run down the stairs, but come to a halt when I lay eyes on a Chris that has his back towards me.
When he hears me he snaps around, ready to shout at me but he stops. His eyes rake dangerously over my body. Every inch that he looks at burns, I feel so insecure under his stare.
He wears a simple black suit, gold tie. His dark hair is gelled neatly but a loose strand falls over his eye. The urge to push it back is so great. But I contain myself.
"Good enough?"i turn slightly.
He takes a while to respond,"No." then he smiles slightly and its the most beautiful smile I've ever seen on a man, "Its perfect."
I smile as he lifts me off he the last few steps, my hands going to his shoulders, he puts me down next to him.
Even though I'm wearing thee heels my head only goes till under his chin.
"Shall we?" he puts he arm out for me to take.
I smile and link my own arm in his, "We shall."
******
"Nervous?" Chris asks and my head snaps away from the blinding lights of the cameras outside.
"Well, it's my first time at one of these." i say with a shaky voice.
"Well I'm right here. Bury your head in my chest and do not look directly at the cameras and everything should be okay?"
I nod, "And inside? What do I do there?" I'm so helpless.
"I'll be by your side all night. Just stay calm."
I nod again and he gets out of the car first. My hand latches on to his and I do as he says. I Bury my head in his chest.
I hear many question coming from around me. But I block them all out.
"And we're safe." i hear Chris whisper and I pull my head away from him.
I gasp at the beautiful sight. Everything is tiled, waiters dressed in white walk around serving drinks. A few people mingle with each other, others are eating from the tables that are lined up against the wall and others are on the dance floor. All the men are in suits and the women in sarees or like myself, Lehangas.
I frown when I realise a problem, "Chris?"
He hums in response, "I'm the only one wearing gold."
"That's good. You're standing out." he leads us down the stairs and eyes snap to us.
"Initially my plan was to blend in." i laugh slightly.
"You're too unique to not stand out in a crowd, darling."my head snaps up to meet his, my eyes are wide.
My heart rate increases manifold and my stomach somersaults in 100 different directions.
We suddenly my stop and I realise why when I look forward. An Indian man dressed in a suit stares at us.
What do I do? I greet. I put my hands clasped together, "Namaste."
The woman behind the man, who is much shorter than him too, looks surprised as she steps forward, "Namaste."
The man looks equally as surprised when he greets back, "Namaste." his voice is deep but Chris's is deeper.
Then Chris introduces me, "May I introduce to you my fiance, Anja. Anja these are the people I told you about. The Raichands. Its their anniversary today, remember?"
I finally realise what he's trying to say. These are the people he's lying to about us. "I remember."
"Isn't it just a coincidence that you get engaged right after I tell you that I deal with wit family men only?" Mr Raichand says.
Just as Chris was going to fire a comeback I butt in, "You didn't tell them?" i have a small frown on my face then I turn Mr Raichand with a smile, "Mr Raichand, Chris and I have been engaged for three months already. We were very discreet about it because of how different our families were. They've accepted us for who we were and I gave Chris my full consent to tell whoever he wants. Isn't that right? "I look over to Chris.
He looks stunned for a milli second but covers it up with a defeated look,"Yes, darling, of course, but I didn't tell anyone because I knew that you don't like the media all over you."
"How considerate..."i smile politely at the Raichands," Mr and Mrs Raichand, have a great evening, we have to go greet the rest of the guests. "
I bow my head as a sign of greeting the then leave. I feel Chris's arm snake around my waist and I gasp audibly.
" Well played, darling, well played." he whispers in my ear.
It sends shivers down my spine.
The night is going great so far.
