i wrote this based on the song ^^ up there because i love it and it made me think of jungkook. also kyra is my best friend so she might be mentioned in a lot of these.

"Are you sure you don't want to come with us tonight?"

"Yeah. Sorry, bud, I've just been working really hard lately and I need a night to relax," Jungkook's voice told me over the phone.

"Don't worry about it," I assured him, moving to hold my phone between my shoulder and my ear so I could spray some perfume on while watching myself in the mirror. "I wanted to invite you so it could be like the old times, but you should rest as much as you need."

"The old times were pretty crazy." He chuckled and I could hear a bit of roughness in his voice, likely caused by too much singing and no rest for his vocal cords. "Besides, you and Hobi always kinda had a thing. You should spend some time alone together tonight and see if the spark's still there."

"What?!" I laughed at his accusation as I shifted the phone to my hand again. "Hoseok is one of my best friends. The only 'thing' we've ever had is friendship."

"So you're telling me that every time you brought some new asshole boy clubbing with us and he left to flirt with the sluttiest, half-naked girl in the place and Hobi came to your rescue and danced for you to cheer you up, there was nothing going on between the two of you? You never once thought he might be the one instead of all those fake punk emo kids? And the next mornings, when you were bed-ridden because your hangover was so bad, when Hoseok took care of you and made ramen because it was the only thing he knew how to cook, that didn't make you want to be with him?"

"No." I made a face to myself in the mirror. "He was just being a good friend. He's like my brother. There's no way he's the one for me."

"Alright. Suit yourself, but I think he's the best option out of all the people you've tried to hook up with," Kookie said, and I could almost hear him shrug nonchalantly through the phone.

"He's not an option, I've never tried to hook up with him, you're annoying, and I have to go. Bye, Jungo."

"Bye stupid. Text me when you get a chance so I know you haven't died somewhere, probably from alcohol poisoning."

"Hey, we're responsible grown adults now, I can take care of myself."

"Remember, like, last week when you got sick and we all had to take care of you because you couldn't get out of bed on your own?"

"That was different," I defended. "I'm hanging up on you now."

"See ya, babe." The line went quiet and I rolled my eyes at his weirdness.

As I grabbed my keys and headed out the door, I considered his words for a minute.

Did Hobi and I really seem like a plausible option? He really was always there for me. Maybe my thinking of him as a sibling was one-sided and he actually was trying to treat me right, like a romantic partner.

I shoved those thoughts away and focused on paying attention as I walked down to the street to find the Uber I had ordered to drive me to the place I was going to meet Hoseok.

A ten-minute ride later, I arrived outside a small pub/concert venue where a local band would be playing and Hobi and I could talk and mingle with strangers for the night.

He was waiting outside for me and when I showed up, his face lit up with a big smile.

"Hey!" He greeted happily, pulling me into a hug. "It's been a while since we hung out like this. I'm excited."
