Waking up isn't fun.

Especially not when you're expecting to wake up next to the love of your life but are instead met with an endless expanse of empty sheets and pillows, which is exactly what happened to me one fateful morning. The only thing that could ever make my mornings enjoyable was Min Yoongi, who happened to not be in bed next to me. Neither of us were morning people, but just waking up next to him and knowing he would be right there with me, even if he was still asleep and would be for the next hour at the least, made me happy.

Even Holly had stayed in his bed in the corner of our room all night rather than joining me in bed today. Granted, he loved Yoongi way more than he liked me and I was always jealous when they cuddled without me, but that just made me sadder because Yoongi wasn't there to lure the puppy onto the bed. And Holly cuddles would have been better than no cuddles.

Of course, Yoongi often spent the night at the studio and of course, every time he did, my mind raced with possibilities of him cheating on me or leaving me or even dying or getting injured without me knowing. He knew I worried about things like this so usually he would text me if he knew in advance that it would be a late night, but I didn't remember getting a text from him last night.

Come to think of it, I didn't really remember much of last night. As I laid there in bed avoiding having to get up and take care of any sort of responsibilities, I tried to think back to a couple of hours before. The last time I could remember looking at the clock was around 10:30.

I sighed and reached under my pillow for my phone in its spot where I put it every night before sleeping, but I couldn't feel it under there. Pursing my lips in suspicion, I felt around the bed for it and ended up shaking around the sheets in search of my phone. I heard a thud on the ground somewhere and sighed again as I realised I would actually have to sit up to get my phone.

Not that I would give up to the morning so easily. I still refused to stand up or get out of bed to reach the small rectangle of metal and glass that was four feet away from the edge of the bed. Trying not to fall off, I ended up struggling to stretch my body and arms to reach it before meticulously pulling myself back onto the bed so that I could stay under the covers for a little bit longer.

I had a couple of messages from Yoongi.

sugar cookie: hey

sugar cookie: i'm gonna be a little late again tonight but i should be home in an hour or so

sugar cookie: are you awake?

sugar cookie: i love you 😘 sleep well

The messages had been sent at one-minute intervals from 11:14-11:18 PM last night. If I had fallen asleep before then, Yoongi should've been in bed next to me when I woke up. Yet he wasn't.

Obviously, without any rational thinking or logic, I started jumping to the worst possible conclusions.

He could be dead on the side of the road because he got mugged by some creep in the middle of the night. He could be in the hospital unconscious with no way to contact me or the boys. He could have used the excuse of me having fallen asleep early to go see his mistress and accidentally spent the night at her house. He could have no intention of coming back here to see me ever again except to sneak in through the window one day while I'm in the shower to steal Holly from me.

Okay. Calm down, brain.

Maybe he ended up crashing on the couch in the studio and forgot to text me and update me with that information. Maybe he stayed up all night and is still working at the studio. Maybe he's asleep on our couch because he was too tired because he's been working himself too hard and couldn't make it to bed without crashing. Maybe he woke up before me and is making breakfast right now so we can spend the beautiful winter morning together.
