"jaemin! you got a letter!" my mom exclaimed across the room. i locked myself up, like i usually do, scrolling across my twitter feed.

"jaemin!! come downstairs right now, this instant." mom interjected. "yah! alright." i replied back. i groaned, stood back up, and trotted down the stairs.

"who even sends letters nowadays? those are like.. fucking ancient now." i scoffed. "LANGUAGE!" mom remarked. i slouched down the couch, stretching my legs out, resting my head on its right arm, and clutched the letter from the coffee table. i flipped the letter on the back; blank. i flipped the letter on the front; a red owl stamp sealed it shut together. i let out a sigh and carefully opened it. a piece of paper, the letter, bursted out. i grabbed it and suspiciously read it.

"Dear Na Jaemin,

We are pleased to inform you that you've been accepted in Pyeongseong, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please collect and enclose all of your supplies, books, and other equipment.

Term begins on September 1. We await your owl (or any other pet) no later then July 31.

Yours Sincerely,

Kim "Doyoung" Dongyoung
Deputy Headmaster"

i stared at the letter. i stayed silent for a good moment, then reread the letter about a million times. me? accepted? no one would want me .. even if they would, that'll be their biggest regret. mom walked over and stopped to see me actually being quiet and calm for once. "is everything .. okay?" mom muttered under her breath. i didn't reply but only glanced at her, then back at the paper. mom slowly sat down at the other end of the couch and had a very distinct facial expression. she broke the silence again and repeated, "is everything okay?" her eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"do you remember me applying to any school in particular?" i finally spoke. mom stared at me, then shaking her head 'no'. "then why does this paper say that im 'accepted' in this wack ass school?" i exclaimed. mom sat a few inches back in a bit of fear. "i-i don't know, honey. i don't know anything. i just got this letter and that was all. im sorry for making you upset." she implied, her voice cracking. i immediately sat up and hugged her. that was a first. "im sorry, mom." i uttered. mom was frozen. her son actually has empathy?

i quickly stood up, still holding onto the letter. "ill be at jeno's again. ill come home early and actually eat dinner with you." i said. i equipped my hoodie and beanie, tuck my head over my hood and left home. mom stood there, then smiled. "i knew my boy would come back." but then thought about the school and wondered, who would accept him?

-

"i got the same letter too." jeno implied. "i googled it up and apparently it's this new boarding school that's hella private and secretive. do you think.. this is a cult?" jeno turned at me with a concerned face.

"cult? probably yeah. we don't know shit about them, so how would they find us? did you talk to some fuckin' wizard or something to track us down?" i stated. i was already jumping to theories and such. i then sighed and stood up from jeno's red plaid bed.

"you should keep on doing more research. i wanna know some more shit. imma text the others if they got it too." i declared. i unlocked my lock screen on my phone and immediately started chatting up everyone else. jeno stared at me for a moment, then rotated back onto his laptop and searched up more.

a good 10 minutes pass by, jeno interrupted the silence between us. "okay, i think .. i got it." he spoke. "ive been to a billion sites now, and i got all of the information i need for this cult." i faced towards him, furrowed my brows. "huh?" i replied. jeno took a gasp and sighed. "this is going to be a lot, jaemin." he added.
