"this could be something, herron" - limelight999

chapter 1 - the picture

——

I woke up when somebody was knocking at my door, my brothers stood outside my door.

Mason whispered: Penny can we come in?

What did they want right now, it's still night?

I answered: Just let me get some clothes on please.

What time was it even? I checked my phone. It said 4:28AM, but that wasn't what I focused on. I saw that I was tagged in 50 pictures on insta and I had like 20 messages from my friends and brothers (and 'the popular girls' who'd made a group chat with me).
So I went to insta and saw the pictures I was tagged in. I was shocked when I saw them. It was this blurry picture of a girl -from the back- without any clothes on other than thongs. Her hair was almost full blonde like my and her skin tone was also the same as my.

But I knew it wasn't me, cause a) I would never be in that position in front of somebody with a camera.
And b) the caption said '13. Oct. 2018 ~ a fun night with this girl' and that must have been Saturday, where I was with my family to a birthday in Indiana.
And c) the boy, who originally posted it, is at my school, yes, and, yes, he does talk to me and flirt, but I've never been at his house or even had something with him. Like never ever. And I would never 'cause he's a popular f***boy in a grade higher than me and he always shows up on the school drunk and high- Elijah.

While I put some clothes on I thought:

'I can't believe that so many people from my school would repost it and believe that it was actually me. That's probably what Mason and Marco wanted to talk about.'

When I was done putting clothes on I opened the door to see my brothers standing in only their boxers.
They walked right in. I sat down on my bed.

Marco: It's not you on that picture right?

Mason: No, it can't be.

Me: Oh please. I swear that's not me. I was with you guys that whole day. We were in Indiana, remember?

Mason: I know, but where else would he have gotten this picture?

He took out his phone and showed it to me.

My dad: What picture?!

Suddenly our dad stood in the door.

My dad looked at Mason and Marco looked at me.

Marco: Uhm...

My dad stepped closer and Mason pressed the button on the side of his phone making it shut down.

Me: It's nothing really.

Dad: Well, if it's nothing, then why are you guys up at 4 fucking AM talking about it?

We were all quiet.

Dad: I'm gonna repeat one time guys, and you're either gonna show me or tell me thats it's not that big of a deal, which would mean lying.

We all sighed.

Mason: Pen, you should tell him.

Marco: Yea, it's about you.

They all stared at me.

Me: Okay.

I coughed.

Me: To be honest I don't know too much other than, this boy at my school yesterday night he posted at picture on insta and it kinda blew up to be this big thing... how do I explain, uhm...

Dad: What kind of picture?

Mason: Can I show him?

Dad: That's not a question. You have to.

Me: Do it. It's just hurting some other girl.

Dad: What do you mean?

Me: You'll see.

Mason turned his phone on again and found the picture. He showed my dad. My dad's jaw dropped and his face turned red probably of madness.

Dad: Penelope Linea Hart.

He looked mad at me.

I was surprised, he never used my middle name unless he was REALLY mad.

Mason: Look dad-

Dad: No! Is that you? Linea, what were you thinking about?! Why the hell?

My dad pointed at the picture.

Marco: Dad-

Dad: I need to her it from her.

My dad shhh'ed them.

Me: No dad. It's not me. I wouldn't... ever.

Dad: You weren't drunk or anything?!

I sinked a sudden lump in my throat and answered quietly.

Me: No dad... I don't drink. And you know why...

I looked down at my feet.

Mason: Dad?

Dad: Yea...

My dad turned around to face my brothers that'd been wanting to say something all along.

Marco: The guy who posted it, said it was the 13. of Oct. 2018. That was the weekend we were in Indiana for Eric's birthday, remember?

Dad: Thank god, I'm sorry Pen.

Me: It's okay.

Marco: No Pen, nothing's okay. They posted a picture of some girl, said it was you and people believe it.

My brothers can seem very aggressive. But it's only when somebody's unfairly treated. That's just how we all are raised in our family.

Suddenly my phone rang...
