Howl Firebreather
September 15th 1779
While I was playing cards with the boys at the fort,I felt a wave of exhaustion wash over me. I was
sweating despite the cool September afternoon. I put my hand of cards down.
“I’m done,” I said. They looked at me in confusion. I did not say anything except, “I going to go to my lodge and sleep, I’m not feeling so well.” They nodded in understanding.
I’m Howl Firebreather I have blond hair that my mother said was like tussled silk, my mother says I have blue eyes like glacier pools, and I’m 21. I like to read and write poetry and would someday hope to own my own bookstore. My mother, Sarafina, is a widow: my father,Gale, died of some kind of cancer. Then there’s Lena, the girl my mother wants me to marry, but to be honest, I never wanted to get married.I wanted to find someone I actually loved and care for, and who loved me in return, but try telling that to my mother.
As I walked to my lodge, I froze and I saw a young woman come out of the Nurses lodge. While I stared, I forgot completely of my tiredness and watched with curiosity the woman. Her hair was long and black that reached her waist. she had emerald green eyes that looked like you drown in them, and ivory skin that shone in the cold sun. Her short white dress looked brown and was coated in dirt. She was also carrying a large basket with strips of cloth hanging off the sides, she set the basket down.
she seemed to notice me staring at her, and looked at me. There was deep kindness in her expression. “Do you need anything, Soldier?” she asked with a light musical voice.
“N-no”, I stammered. she looked at me with her head coked to the side, as if trying to figure something out.
“ I’m, Howl Firebreather”, I said slowly, I had never really talked to a women other than my mother and two sisters.
She smiled, “I’m Rashel Wolfe”, she said.
“Thats a pretty name” I said shyly.
She looked at me in surprise “Thank you”,she said in almost a whisper. Then she looked at me green eyes suspiciously “You look exhausted”, she said a little louder.
“Yeah”, I said, when the earlier wave of exhaustion washed over me. My shoulders sagged, and my eyes were blurry
she looked at me softly and suggested “why don’t you go to your bed and rest, not much happens here now ”.
“Okay, thank you”, I said yawning. As I walked to my lodge.
I looked back at Rashel Wolfe, she was shaking her head slightly, blushing, she started sorted through her basket. I smiled, and headed into my lodge.

The next day I was feeling better and was ready for action, but usually nothing happens. After some some bread for breakfast, I walked around; I found Seth playing cards with some other guys.
“Hey Seth, mind if I join the next hand?”, I asked
“Sure”, said Seth nicely. I smiled, Seth was one of the nicest guys in the fort; his copper hair shone in the sun; his eyes were a warm almost cat-like green. ”Actually we’re just starting”, he said, smiling. I stuck my tongue out at him, he laughed.
“BOOOOM!!!”.
“What was that?”, I asked, I reaching for my musket.
“Don’t know”, Seth said scared and I realized that Seth was only 18, his parents sent him to Savannah, to help him overcome some of his fears, and to send him off hoping he would return victorious.
