Howl Firebreather

same day

I bolted upright, and again explosive agony, made me cry out in pain. I was sweating, and felt very tired. A squeak of surprise, made me turn my head. Rashel was on the ground with a bucket of water next to her. She was wet and was looking at me in shock, her eyes were like a fawns very big and very wide.

" Oh my God, Rashel, I am so sorry", I managed to get out, while trying to choke back laughter. Rashel was giggling softly, I stated chuckling, and we were both laughing until, Sharp pain made me grimace in pain.

"Oh, sorry, I forgot you were still wounded, and your wounds are still pretty deep, hold on... maybe we can try... to have you walk, can you get up, please?", Rashel asked gently, her voice trailing off in a few places.

"Yeah, I think so... hold on", I said. I sat up and swung my legs to the edge ofthe cot , I gingerly set my feet on the ground, " Ow" pain pierced my torso as I stood upright. Rashel was shaking her head and told me to lay back down.

"Ugh, I have to go tell Campbell that it will take a week, maybe two to get you on your feet", Rashel said sadly. I was confused, I could tell something was terribly wrong, she looked a little depressed and completely saddened.

"Rashel?, what happened while I was recovering?", I asked suddenly worried, I looked up at her, she crossed her arms and hugged herself. Rashel hesitated, before answering my question.

"Over half of our men were either dead or wounded.", she said sadly and started crying softly, "My brother, Taylor Wolfe died with them."

"Oh, Rashel I'm so sorry" I said grieving for her loss. "Come here and sit" I scooted over a little to give her room.

Rashel looked at me uncertainly, then came and sat by my side. I hugged her, she tensed under my embrace, but relaxed and hugged me back, silently sobbing into my bad shoulder, intense pain coursed through me, but I ignored it, and smiled happily.

"Rashel, where on earth is the Yarrow!" Phoebe asked coming through the curtain that held their sleeping room, and herb stock.

Howl and Rashel sprang apart, their tight embrace broken.

"I-in the bowl next to the Burdock Root", Rashel stammered.

"Thank you," came the annoyed reply. " I need it for Howls wound".

Rashel realized that she hasn't redressed his wounds since the night before.

"Lay down, Howl, while I take your bandages off," Rashel said expertly. Rashel could see that Howl was disappointed, but Rashel would talk to him later.

I was disappointed. I was getting ready to tell Rashel that I liked her, but Phoebe had cut in just as I was going to talk.
