Elijah grunted when her father threw her against the wall, the back of her head probably bleeding from the impact.
"You're such a fucking brat! Why can't you do anything right!?" He yelled at the seven year old, her mother drinking a bottle of vodka while watching. Elijah's dad was super drunk this time and she just had to open her big mouth and talk back at him and he goes ballistic.

The poor girl looked up at him. You know what? Elijah has always tried to make them proud, doing everything she can to make them happy, but she never knew of how to, she never knew of why they hated her in the first place, she never asked. So with that thought, she'll give it a shot.

"Dad?" She asked, her voice kinda raspy from the screams she's made from all of the beatings.

He snarled, "What?"

"...Why do you do this to me? I've spent my whole life trying to make happy and proud of me. So why? Why...?"

"Do you know why? It's because you can't do anything right. Your useless at everything. You were a mistake in the first place." He growled, wearing a disappointing and disgusted look on his face.

"You never gave me the chance to prove myself! I've tried and tried so many times, I just wanted to see you guys actually smile around me! I just want my own parents to love me and treat me like your own child! Is that so much to ask!?" Elijah didn't dare let the tears go. It was silent, until it was ruined when a fist landed in her face, probably causing a huge bruise to form there later.

"You want parents? Then how about you get off of your pathetic ass and go find some who will actually give a shit for a disappointing brat like you! We wanted a child that could actually do things right, but no, we were cursed with a failure. You're an embarrassment to this family. You're nothing but a burden." Those last words made her flinch. She doesn't know why, but something inside the girl just... sparked.

She stood up from the floor and walked towards the drunk and punched him in the stomach as hard as she could, so hard that he coughed up some blood and leaned forward. That gave her the advantage to punch him in the jaw, then grab both his shoulders and kneed him in the crotch. Elijah continued to punch him in the face while gripping the collar of his shirt. The dude didn't even look like he was alive, but she still continued to beat him up until she got tired, her mom looked horrified when Elijah looked up and glared.

"I gave you so many chances. Hoping that I'd have a family that actually gave a damn about me, but I guess I was wrong, like I always am." She mocked that last part, remembering when her parents had said that so many times before. She then let go of her father and bolted out of the rotting house and down the street.

She didn't stop running until she had arrived at a dark ally way, well probably because it was nighttime. Elijah then sat down next to a few trash cans and just let everything out, her anger, sadness, frustration... confusion, all of them formed together in tears.

Just then, she heard some rustling in some trash cans at the end of the ally way, but she could care less of what it is or what it could do to her, she just wanted to let everything out, tired of always keeping things bottled up. She just wanted to die, leave this horrible life she's living in, not wanting to suffer anymore pain or fear any longer. She's had enough of it all.

All of a sudden, she felt a hand on her shoulder, making her flinch, but she didn't look up at who the hand belonged to.

"Hey, you okay?" A boy's voice was heard, sounding concerned for the girl.

"Why do you care? You don't know me. Just leave me alone." She hiccuped, her crying calming down a little.

"Well you are crying. I just thought you needed help." Elijah then stood up quickly.

"I don't need your hel-" She froze at what she saw. There, in the dark, were four black figures, but there shapes weren't human, they looked almost like... animals. "What are you?" She asked in a bit of a shaky voice, scared at what they might look like.

"Um, you might be scared out of your wits if you knew of what we looked like." A bit of a higher pitched voice spoke up, but the seven year old girl could definitely tell that it was a boy. Elijah noticed that there was some moonlight in between her and the four strangers.

"Come into the light." She said, trying to act and sound calm, but on the inside, she was freaking out of what they looked like.

The four figures then obeyed her order and stepped into the light. Elijah's eyes widened at the sight.

"You're...what are you?" She stepped a little closer to them, taking a good look at each of them.

One of them was wearing a red bandanna that was wrapped around his head, and one of his eyes were gold and the other was toxic green. The second turtle that was talking to her was wearing a white hoodie with a blue bandanna around his eyes and a tooth missing, the one next to him looked a little nervous and was wearing a purple bandanna around his eyes, and finally the last one had on an orange bandanna and a black and orange baseball cap, with spikes and bold white words saying, 'N.Y.C' on the front of the cap.

"We're turtles." The blue mutant spoke up with a cheeky smile.

"Mutants actually, but still." The red turtle spoke in a bored tone, crossing his arms.

"What are your names?" The girl asked, now curious of these four.

"Well I'm Swift and these are my brothers. That's Rebel, Ghost and M.C. What's yours?" He said, gesturing to each turtle.

"Um... Elijah." She whispered, not sure if she should trust these four.

"How old are you?" Swift asked again. Seriously, what's with his questions anyways?

"Seven." She answered and Swift gasped.

"You're the same age as me and Rebs!" He said excitedly, his smile going wider in happiness. "You're a human and a girl?! This is the best day of my life!" He fist pumped the air. Elijah just raised an eyebrow at him.

"Why is that so great?" She tilted her head a little in confusion.

"Because it's rare for us to make friends since we're always cooped up in the sewers all the time and when we do end up making friends, they're always guys and mutants. But now we made our first friend that's a girl and a human. That's so cool!" He giggled.

Elijah's eyes widened and backed up one step, "Whoa whoa, no one ever said that we were friends, and plus...I just met you. So what makes you think we're friends?" She defended.

"Well we did introduce ourselves, so... we're friends!" He shrugged and smiled fondly at her. Elijah just looked at him like he was crazy.

"Anyways, do you need help? Why were you crying?" He asked, looking concerned once again.

"Uh- it's nothing. Don't worry about it." She said, turning around to leave when one of the turtles grabbed her hand, making her look back at Swift.

"Please?" He asked with pleading eyes.

Her eyes widened a bit.

'What am I getting myself into?' She thought.

Elijah bolted up awake and sat up on the couch. The 17 year old looked around the lair, 'It was a dream?' She thought and felt a hand on her shoulder, looking behind to see Swift, looking concerned like he did when they first met.

"You okay Eli?" He asked and sat down next to her.

"Um, yeah. It was only a dream." She smiled reassuringly at him, placing her hand on top of his hand that was still resting on her shoulder.

"What was it about?" He asked in curiousness.

Elijah then faced the black screen of the TV and smiled, memories coming back to her brain.

"How we met."
