Later that day, for dinner, everyone was contemplating what to eat. Y/N was quiet.
"Hotdogs?" Shelly suggested.
"Tacos!" Haley was very enthusiastic about her reply.
"We should get Chinese." Morgan nodded her head.
"What would you like, Debsy Websy?" it was clear who Emma liked.
"Pizza?" Shay suggested.
"I'm lactose intolerant," Denis spoke up.
"Scratch pizza." Shay muttered. Y/N looked up at her, but couldn't think of something to say fast enough. She looked back down at her phone.
"How about you choose, Y/N?" Shelly asked.
Y/N looked up again."Me?"
"Yeah."
"Okay. Chinese." she looked down right after she said her answer. Denis looked at her, secretly happy with her decision.
"Yes!" Morgan was happy she chose her idea.
"Has she always loved Chinese food that much?" asked Shelly.
Y/N looked up again, and scratched her neck. "I wouldn't say Chinese, exactly. Just nothing normal."
"Whats considered 'normal?'"
"American food, I guess. Food I grew up with. That I consider normal."
"Our fathers are very different." Morgans jump into the small conversation didn't help in any way.
"That doesn't help," Shelly added.
"My parents fed my brother and I normal American food, while Morgans parents fed her and her siblings foreign food, so we have very different versions of 'normal.'"
"Food." Morgan finished.
Y/N considered. "Yeah."
Denis was still confused. "Are you two related?"
"Cousins." Morgan answered before Y/N could.
"They barely visited, we weren't able to, I don't-"
"We look nothing alike." Y/N rolled her eyes.
"That's because you look like your mother."
"Do you two always fight?" asked Denis, confused.
"I wouldn't consider it fighting, exactly. But we get along more than my brother and I."
The sun was starting to set, so Y/N took this chance while she could. She straightened her arm by the window she was sitting by, the sunlight reflecting off of the phone to the ground. She turned her hand so the light made its way to a sleeping cat. It opened its eyes, saw the light and started chasing it. They all laughed. The cat ran into a wall.
"The poor thing." Y/N brought her phone to her chest. "Enough with that, lets eat something." they all agreed and got up. Denis tried to say something to Y/N, but Emma dragged him away. They were all great friends; this wasn't Emma's exact intention. She would never purposely be rude to any of them. She just had a slight crush. Maybe more than that.
"We never ordered anything." Haley then realized (yeet sorry). They all felt stupid. "I'll call them."
:20 minutes later:
That night, dinner was great. They all enjoyed it. When they were done, Emma got up to go to the bathroom. Shelly followed to go afterwards, too. Morgan went to help Haley with dishes. Shay got an important phone call. And Y/N, untouched by awkwardness. Denis looked over at the paper on the wall, with so many phone numbers of the house occupants.
"Did you have something to say to me earlier?" Y/N asked, looking over at him.
"Uh-um, yeah. How-how'd you find that little thing with your phone and the sunlight and the cat?"
"Well, I knew that if sunlight reflected off a mirror, it'd bounce back, so I thought one day I'd try it with my phone, and I reflected it by my cat, and she went cray. Also, the sun reflected off of my phone once and I was kind of confused."
"Cray?" Denis scratched the back of his head.
"Cray." Y/N nodded. Then everyone poured back into the room. Emma went straight to Denis like he were a magnet.
:Time skip; 1 week:
It's been a week since the new arrival, and everyone has gotten used to him. But he woke up in the middle of the night to a noise. Someone walking. He groggily walked to the door, and opened it, rubbing his eyes. He walked down the short hallway, one of two people who had a room downstairs. Pass a bathroom, a stairwell.
Some was packing by the front door, nothing but the outdoor lamppost slightly lighting the small table through an even smaller window. Denis quickly went from being half asleep, to 100% awake. He quickly tip-toed to his room as fast as possible to grab a coat and shoes.
Y/N.
