today is your first day at a new school. a high school to be specific. you feel different because you're not human. well you are but don't feel like it. you have these things called "powers" and you can move this with your mind and make force fields. yeah, you have telekinesis and force fields. no one you know has this sort of talent. it's 1962 and supers just became illegal. your parents try hard not to show the powers but they can't hold it off forever. of course there's going to be evil out there but there will always be until the earth gets wiped out one day. that day is when no one is going to be alive. you don't know when and it's a scary thought. but the scariest thing right now is high school

*5:30 am* 

"y/n. y/n. wake up honey. you're gonna be late for school!" you slowly open your eyes and groan. you see your mom holding a glass of water for you

you sit up and drink some of the water and hand it back and try to go back asleep

"come on sweetie. don't be late! today's the first day of school for every freshman and you could meet someone. maybe meet a girl" 

"no one is gonna talk to me. i'm a weird super freak and all i want is to find someone just like me. just another super"  

"maybe you will. you never know" your mom sets fire in your fireplace with her powers, "it's a cold september day today and your room is chilly. tell your dad to set out the fire when you're about to leave" you've never started school in september so you're not use to this

"ok i will. love you"

"i love you too"

*6:25 am*

you go downstairs after getting ready and see your dad making breakfast for you and your siblings 

"hey dad mom said to tell you to set the fire out when i leave. i'm assuming that she means with your pow-"

"with my powers yes. i miss being out there fighting crime so much"

"yeah! it defines who i am" your brother bird says

"what does that even mean?" you ask 

"i saw it on a show last night"

"you were watching tv last night? i thought that we all agreed on no tv at night! when your mother finds out she's going to be furious"

"sheesh! i was just watching a show. no big deal" 

"can we just get our breakfast now"

"ashjahkukuh" your little baby sister says 

"why couldn't mimi be a boy" bird says and puts his elbow on the table and rests his head on the palm of his hand 

"because idiot. that's not how it works. she didn't have the choice to be a boy or a girl. she just came out that way" 

"and how do you know all of this?"

"because i passed middle school. you just got into fifth grade. you'll learn soon"

after breakfast you get on the bus and sit in an empty seat behind the tire. after a while the bus starts to get full 

"um excuse me please, can i sit here?" you look up and see a beautiful girl with a purple striped turtleneck on and jeans rolled up at the bottom. she has on a purple headband pulling her hair back and showing the features of her face. you're stunned from her beauty but quickly snap out of it

"oh uh yeah sure. s- sorry" 

"no it's ok. we all can be nervous sometimes" and she sits down next to you

"i'm violet. violet parr"

" i'm y/n. y/n johnson. today's my first day going to a school in this neighborhood. we had to move because of some difficulties my family had with the law" 

"well hopefully the problems you're having will be solved. it's a nice school. but my little brother goes here too. he just got into the fifth grade. his name is dash" 

"my brother too! his name is bird. well, that's what we call him. his real name is branden"

and so you guys continue to talk the whole bus ride
