Waking up in the dirty ground is not the best way to begin a daring adventure.              My name is Kancer. I'm Prince of the angels. Right now I'm on a quest to find the demon who wreaked the royal stables.
The angels and demons have been enemies for centuries. The two never get along. Most creatures work together and get along in order to stay hidden from the mortals, but the demons and angels are different.
I myself have never came face to face with a demon, but one killed my father. My mother told me of their mischievous ways and scary, blood, red eyes that see into your soul. She told me that their teeth are sharp like knives so it's easier to eat their victims. When I was younger, I used to have nightmares about them. But now I'm older and a well trained warrior.
As I ride through the woods, I hear the birds and fairies sing. This boggles my mind.
My mother told me demons lived here along with fearful creatures. That's why no one from my kingdom was allowed to venture this far. But now that my mother has passed, she couldn't convince me not to head in this direction for my search.
But what confuses me, is the state of the forest. It is beautiful. The grass has a wonderfully healthy colour to it, the trees are in good shape. It surly doesn't look like evil monsters live here.
"Sir, over here." The voice of one of my men snap my attention back on focus.
Turning I see what he means.
Up in the trees a figure sleeps peacefully. It looks to be a girl. Not sure if it's a human I give signal to my men to hide their wings. If she is mortal we don't want her to know.
"Um! Hello? Miss?" I yell up to her, yet she doesn't budge.
I look around finding a good sized rock. I pick it up, then aim to throw at the branch she's laying on. I do so, shaking the branch. Nothing. I try again. Nothing.
After a while I give up, she doesn't seem to wake. I turn to walk away in hope to find someone else.
As a make it a couple yards, I feel something quite hard hit me against my back. I turn to find the rock I threw at my feet. Looking up I see the girl awake with her legs hanging off the branch.
" 'ya know, maybe if you would've said why you wanted to talk to me I would've answered. No need for throwing rocks at me."  She said. Her voice sounded like something I've never heard before. It wasn't soft like most girls, nor was it harsh like a mans.
"Oh, sorry! I'm looking for someone to help me with directions." I reply.
I watch as she swings her legs before jumping down. Only then do I realize how tall the tree branch was. It had to be at least fifteen feet high.
She landed on the ground as if she'd done it many times. Her bright red hair flowed down in waves. Her dark green eyes reflect the forest's colors back at me. She wore a red, blue and black paid button up with her selves rolled up along with short that had many pockets and stopped a couple inches pass mid thigh. And to top it off she had brown timberlands.
"Where are you trying to go?" She asked.
"We're looking for someone who broke into my stables last night."
She looked at me for a bit as if I were a book she had hard time trying to read.
"Sorry, but I don't think I've seen anyone who looked like they've stolen something. But, you might go d them in the next town over. If it was last night, they could've reached there by now." She said pointing east. There was something with the way she said her words that made me wonder.
"Its no problem. But if it's not a bother, could you maybe show is the way? We're not familiar with these woods." I ask nicely.
She smiled; it was a pretty smile.
     "Sure."
And with that she started walking in the direction she pointed to.
The others didn't seem to like the idea, but I don't care. She doesn't look harmless.
The walk was quiet except for the sounds of twigs snapping under our feet and the leaves.
"So, why were you up in that tree?" I ask.
"I like sitting there to watch the birds and critters play." She replied without looking at me.
I nod then look to the guys and make a face. See I knew she couldn't be a demon. Demons would have eaten us and the critters.
I decide not to ask any more questions because I don't want to sound like a creep.
A little while later she stops. Looking around her eyes seem to change to a brighter green like the leaves in spring.
"Wha- ah!" I turn toward my men to see small green creatures crawling up their legs biting them.
I inch my hands down into my coat, ready to pull out my swords when a flaming arrow shoots pass me and into one of the creature's head. It screams in agony as it stops biting.
The others are aware of the injured  friend and stop attacking, picking it up and carry it away. They shout out cursings and mutter about us being lucky for having a guardian.
"Damn it! I hate goblins." I hear.
Turning a see the girl, but now her hair has fire dancing through it, and her eyes have little flames instead of pupils.
She rushes to the men now laying on the ground holding their legs. I watch as she spreads her hands and flames dance across. She says some kind of enchantment.
She's a witch! That makes sense. Either that or she's a demon, but a demon wouldn't help people for no reason.
"Don't just stand there like an idiot! Help, goblin bites are deadly. If we don't treat it fast they will die!" she yells making me rush to her.
"Quickly, I'll sit them up, you get their wings out so they'll heal faster."  She says while sitting the two upwards.
I do as told while confused as to how she knew we are angels. Once their wings are out she lays them back down on the ground.
"How did you know?" I ask looking her in the eyes which have now turned back to a dark green. She shook her head.
"Come on, they'll need rest in order to heal properly. Plus, knowing the goblins, they'll be back for a rematch. And next time it won't be your legs they'll bite." She said gathering some items I didn't notice before.
Then after standing, she squatted back down to pick up the heavier man, throwing him over her shoulder. Both men were at least two hundred pounds. The one she picked up was only twenty pounds from  three hundred.
"Well, are you just gonna stand there and make me lift both? Or are you gonna help your other soldier to safety?" This snapped me from my trance. Quickly I grab the other guard, bringing his arm over my shoulder and woke him enough to get him to move his feet.
If she is a witch then she must be a powerful one. I never would've thought that they could pick up two to three hundred pound men without breaking a sweat. Must be some kind of potion.
"I'm Kancer." I say while following her to where ever.
"Kancer, the Prince of angels. Yeah, I know who you are. Not to good at hiding it." She replies bluntly.
          "Huh?"
"I mean, I can see all of your wings from inside you coats, also, it's mid spring. No one wears coats like that when it's hot. That and when you asked about the their this morning."
"Wait? Really you can see my wings?" I turn trying to check but remember I have a sick soldier leaning on me for balance.
             "So, are you a witch?"
She looks back at me with a smirk.
"No. What makes you think that?" She laughed confusing me.
If she isn't a witch, then what is she?
"Well, I mean, you're helping us and your eyes changed along with the flames. So" I trailed off.
"You're the prince of angels and you can't figure out what I am?" She teased.
"And just because I'm helping you doesn't make me a witch. Just think angels have brains right? "
This makes me think back to the lessons my mother would give me on the different creatures. Though I can only remember two types being able to use fire as a power source. Witch- though not often, and demon. If she's not a witch, then....
"Wait, you're-" the pain from a rock hitting my head stopped my words. Turning, I find more goblins marching in our direction. But now they are prepared, in their hand they hold weapons that really just look like ordinary tools that have rusted over then sharpened.
"Shit. Kancer! Take the other two and get them to the cave. You'll know it when you see it! I'll hold them off then meet up with you to heal them. Go!" She yelled sliding the solider off her back giving him to me.
I watch in almost learn as goblins shoot arrows at us. Just as one is only a foot from hitting me, a wing made of flames spread out burning it. Taking a few steps back I take in the scene in front of me.
The girl- who as yet to tell me her name- had grown wings that spread out seven feet to her left and right to cover me and my men. The wings were made of flames, but not the topical orange flame, but of different colors. The majority was a dark glowing red and blue that mixed without making purple. The wings themselves were amazing to see as the flames moved about without mis shaping it. Her hair had flames dancing around along with the red hair itself. In fact, the whole ground seemed to have flames dancing around her spot. She stands still while throwing little fire balls at the small but evil creatures. I guess she realized I'm still here because she turns her head to face me.
"Get out of here! I can't risk having you hurt. Now go!" She yells, her last two words coming out with more force as a swift string of blue fire flies to me like a bird. Said thing soars around me making a patten. It then flies in the direction she pointed to earlier. The pattern tightens around me and drags me along with it.
Now all I see is dangerous fire around me, so I'm expecting it to hurt most likely like hell, but it didn't. It didn't hurt at all, it just felt as if something was pulling me along. Like an excited child trying to show their parents the sand castle they worked so hard on.
Not a few seconds later the flames stop in the middle of the forest. This spot seems familiar like I've been here before. Turning I see the tree the girl was sleeping on. Now I see, this is where we met.
Looking around I searched for the cave she mentioned while also processing what just happened and what the girl is. She has to be a demon, but I'm not sure why she's chosen to help us. Though I will not disregard it, for my men are in dire need.
After taking a while, I finally see the cave. It did t look much like a cave. While it did form from the side of a rock, that's all. The door was made out of some kind of grass that had been turned different colors. Walking in, I notice the writing on the walls and books lying around. I set the guards down on the bed that was neatly placed against a wall. Next to it, a picture frame.
The picture was of  a small yet happy family. A tall young man with dark hair that had started to turn gray, a woman a little older with long dark hair similar to the male's, and a little girl with bright red hair. She smiled like she had just told she was going to be able to eat ice cream for breakfast. A smaller boy with dark hair like the older make and female. He had his arm around the girl and the same happy smile. They looked like a family, but the girl seemed so different than the others.
Hearing footsteps come near the cave, I put the picture down. Unsure weather it's a goblin or the girl I put my hand inside my pocket to grab my sword ready to fight.
"Damn goblins! I swear those stupid creatures never know when to stop!" This makes me relax knowing it's her. A small smile crept to my lips as she walked into the cave.
She has bruises and cuts littering her pale skin. A piece of her hair had been cut so it looked uneven now. Her eyes turned back to a bright green, and her wings are gone.
"Good you made it here okay" she said while letting out a long breath.
I don't understand why she's helping. She's a demon. She should be trying to eat us not save us.
Maybe that's her plan. Heal the soldiers then eat us all once we let out guard down. That would make sense.
Though I'm having a hard time believing myself of this assumption. If she wanted to eat us she had the perfect time to do so. Plus her teeth don't look that sharp, nor do her eyes resemble the color of blood. Was my mother wrong about the demons?
"Are you just gonna stand there, or are you planning on helping me fire your men?" I turn to the girl seeing her hover over the said men while some type of vile in her hands.
"Who are you? And what are you? Please just answer me that before I continue being in your presence."  I had to know before I went crazy with the thoughts running through my mind.
She tilted her head at me to show her confusion. I thought it was intriguing how her hair just flowed with her even without the fire.
"That's one more thing I don't understand about angels. They always ask questions they know the answers to instead of the one they need to know." She said setting the vile down.
When she looked back up, I could see the change in her eyes. They were more of a blueish color.
"So, you mean you really are a... " I trail off not wanting to finish.
"Demon. Don't be afraid, I'm not gonna hurt you. The reason I'm helping you is so you can't turn this all around on me and get me killed." She explained though it only made me even more confused.
"Now if you think you can handle it, would you mind going to get me some water from the lake not far from here? I'll send a flame to guide you." Suddenly the blue fire from earlier came back to life as it flew around the room.
            "What exactly is that? "
"This one is named Blu bird. One of my guider flames. He prefers to take the form of a bird like creature. He helps guide those humans who trespass back home without getting hurt. He then wipes their memories making them believe it was all just a dream. " she answers while watching the flames dance around like a child.
"So what is the water for?" I ask.
"Why don't you go get it for your soldiers then ask" she replied turning her body away from me while gathering different bottles.
I then nod, leaving after Blu, who seemed excited to be free. He lead me to the aforementioned lake. It was beautiful. Nothing like I had ever seen in my own kingdom. As I fill the bucket I was given full of water, I start to feel guilty for believing my mother's false words about demons and others outside our walls.
On my way back I listen to the sounds of the wild. The fairies dancing in the trees along with natural animals simply roaming the area unaware of the danger. It seemed peaceful. Unfortunately the peaceful sounds of the forest were interrupted by the sound of rumbling that grew louder by the second.
I quicken my pace towards the cave in hopes to get to safety. Once in front the sound gets even louder. I hurry in to find the girl- who's name is still unknown- sitting calmly I between the unconscious men. Their wounds have suddenly gone down to look as if it had been months since what happened only minutes ago took place.
"Did you hear those noises?" I asked in a hurried tone though she only turns without much emotion.
"Your men are going to live. Now please be quiet. I have managed to stay alive for years due to not being too loud. And if you get me caught, I will give them a real reason to kill me." Her tone is oddly calm for the words spoken. But I listen and sit down without any objections.
After a few moments, the sounds stop, and only then do I realize what it was.
"The outer guards." I whisper as I feel stupid for not knowing my own solders schedule that I created.
"They march through the forest as if any intruders wouldn't hear them. They disturb the animals and the wildlife without thought. They kill any who have the slightest connection to their enemies, and never stop to ask why. They kill inoccent people just because they were too kind to take in a stray child regardless of they were a demon." She says sadly. I watch her expression morph into one of regret and anger.
"That family in the picture with you. They took you in and cared for you. And when the angels found out about it they killed them?" I asked fearing the answer. I didn't want to find out that the very people I'm about to become king of were murders of inoccent people.
"You need to leave. If you are found anywhere near a demon, it could ruin your chances of becoming king. "
I watch as she got up and started grabbing different items similar to the medicine she gave the men.
"Here, when they wake up give them this and they should be able to get back to work and feeling good within days."she gave me the bag of meds before lifting one of the men up.
"Why? Why are you doing this? You said that angels took those you cared for away, so why help the Prince of their kind?"
I asked feeling the need to know.o
"Because the mother of the family that took me in was about to see into the future. She saved me because she said that I along with the Prince will end the war of angels and demons. That I will save you. That and unlike what you angels do, I know that not all of one species are the same as one."  she said softly, her eyes changing colors while she spoke.
Taking in the information I nod before asking another quick question.
"What is your name? You knew me, but I don't know you."
"Lasair. My name is Lasair." She handed the other soldier to me before walking quickly to the border of the kingdom.
We sit the men down before I turn to ask one last question, but only met with the picture of the family at my feet. No demon.

I guess this is how I will find her from now on. Because Lord knows, I'm going to go back for her after I become king. I will make it easier for her to live. For her to be free. I will end this war with her.
