The feel of the wind whistling through my fur sent happiness to every part of my body.

The forest was alive with sounds and scents. Leaves crunched under my paws as I shot between the tree trunks, a blur to most wildlife. A goofy smile took over my face as my wolf took through the forest. Her glee to be freed was consuming all my negative thoughts until nothing was left but pure unconditional delight. Not a morbid thought in sight- an unusual feeling compared to my norm.

Smells of wild animals, recently blooming flowers and everything relating to the wilderness around me flooded my system. I loved the heightened senses being a wolf brought, as little time I spent in this form, it was still my safe haven. In some sense you could say I felt more in control, more powerful.

My wolf's appearance was rather on the small side for a female. This made nipping and tucking into tight spots simple, but I wasn't as well built as many of the others which was a major downside. I was often easily mistaken for that of a child. With lack of experience and training in wolf form I was scrawny and extremely unfit. I barely managed a few laps around the clearing I had found without having to catch my breath. Nonetheless my wolf wasn't complaining, my body humming with satisfaction. Shifting was a luxury to us due to the constant healing my wolf had to do so I allowed her to take the reins, she deserved it.

When was the last time we went a run? I forgot how it felt to be so.... Independent. My wolfs melodic voice ran through my head.

It's been close to four months. I sigh. This was definitely overdue.

Now that's an understatement. She stretched our body out, scanning the area. Let's have some fun shall we?

I snorted. As long as we don't pee on any more electric fences, I'm in. That was not my idea of fun.

She chuckled recalling the memory. Lighten up that was one time, I'm all grown up now. I'm sure I can manage those pesky fences.

All grown up? I grinned.

Is that why you still drink out the toilet? Or how about doing your business down badger and bunny holes to stop them coming out? Or how about that time-

She huffed, head turned to the side. Okay, alright I get your point. Let's not ever bring those mistakes up again.

Sure. I teased.

A movement directly in front of us took her attention. A small rustle in the bushes had her sprinting ferociously, I let her take control and watched as she chased a small robin into the undergrowth. Losing her prey, she puffed out her chest and instead pranced around in the endless fields of freshly blooming flowers. Clearly not too bothered by her lame attempt of breakfast, she resorted to trying to paw some butterflies above us.

Time was just a number as it flew from under us. Quality time like this with my wolf made me completely forget about the outside world. The constant suffering, pain and submission was simply another thought on the breeze, we were untouchable out here. I could be myself and enjoy the beauty of nature as well as my wolf's company.

If only everyday could be like this and the outside world wasn't so bleak. One of the many wishes I had for my fairy godmother.

Scenting running water, I potted towards a large river. The glittering sunlight bounced off of it. Sparkles shimmered just below the surface like the river wore its own golden armour. I dipped my snout in and took a quick drink, a flame coloured wolf staring straight back. Fierce green eyes held my own. I liked the fact that my wolf and I shared a similar physical appearance (except the whole species divide) - blazing red hair and vibrant emerald eyes.
