When a hylian child dies, they have the chance to be reborn as a korok. That way they are able to finish living out their childhood while also helping take care of the forest. The reason we see so many koroks in Breath of the Wild compared to other games is because of how many innocent children died as a result of the calamity.
Most of the koroks remain unnamed, but some of them are given names and personalities in the game. These koroks are found after Link makes it to the Korok Forest. In this book I put together original artwork of what these kids might have looked like while they were still alive, as well as my head cannons about their personalities.
Feel free to leave comments about any other ideas you guys might have about the children of the forest. Also if there are any other koroks I missed let me know. (I haven't done Hestu and Chio because they seem more aged than the other koroks and I wouldn't know how to depict them as children).
