After I got off the phone, I came out of my room with Melissa waiting on the couch. She must have herd some of the conversation because she didn't look the least bit pleased with me. "'Rissa you said you--." "I know what I said. But you should have heard him. If he didn't care so much about what I thought of him, he would have probably started crying right there on the phone." She was staring at me with a cold, displeased look on her face. "I know I didn't keep my word. But I haven't totally agreed to run back into his arms. I just want to see what is left between us, if anything." Melissa shook her head. "He's just going to hurt you again. He's going to be no different than Michael." I hated hearing his name. Marshall was totally different than Michael was. Marshall is compassionate, caring, empathetic. On top of being funny and extremely handsome. "Please don't compare the two of them." I said to her. "I don't know what is going to happen between Marshall and I but that is up to us to decide. I don't want to cut things off just because he messed up. He took me back after I messed up." Melissa thought about this for a minute, then I saw her face change. "Okay, I guess you have a point. Although, you didn't fuck anyone else. You just got stressed out and pushed him away. I know I'm not going to be able to talk you into doing anything different. You've made up your mind." I nodded and offered a smile. "I'm going to bed now." I said, "Its kind of late and I have an important date tomorrow. "Okay." Melissa gave me a hug and said "Goodnight, 'Rissa. I hope you know what you're doing for real."

The next day I spent stressing over what I should wear and how I should look. I wasn't sure if I was just going to literally spend time or if he had something up his sleeve. I tried to get him to tell me, but he wouldn't answer any of my texts. I figured he was enjoying making me sweat to get back at him for jokingly telling him I had another date. I started getting ready kind of early because I made a lot of decisions as I went. Like makeup colors and what to do with my hair. Melissa was going to something they did at the bar each year. I had never been because I had always managed to get a date with someone. Of course, the last three Valentine's days were spent with Michael.
When I pulled up to Marshalls house this time, I could tell Tiny was expecting me. We briefly discussed the events of a couple days prior and he apologized because he confessed, he knew what I was walking into. "Tiny, my mind couldn't be persuaded. I, too, am stubborn and when I have decided to do something nothing really stops me. But I appreciate your apology." He smiled at me for the first time ever. "Ms. Marissa, you make Mr. Mathers very happy. I don't think I've ever seen him like this in the four years I've worked this booth for him. And that's not because he hasn't had any women come through here besides you, because he most certainly has." I returned his smile. "Thank you, Tiny. That means a lot. And no matter what happens today I wish you all the best in life okay?" He nodded and opened the gate for me motioning me through as he always did.
Today something felt different as I pulled to the end of Marshall's long driveway. Everything looked the same, so I knew it was something within me. I think I was beginning to feel a little dread and some fear over not knowing what was going to happen when I got to the end of the drive. I pulled slowly around the last bend and found Marshall standing there, which was something that never happened. He flashed me a huge smile when I pulled up and met me at my door. He opened it before I even had a chance to put my keys in my purse. "Hey beautiful." He said to me, he reached out a hand to help me out of the car as if I didn't know how to get out alone. "Hello to you too." I said. He pulled me into the warmest hug we've ever shared, and also probably the longest. Having his hands and arms around me made me feel light. Like I had been missing it from my life over the past couple of days and having it made me feel whole again. He pulled away to get a look at me. "Did you do all this for me?" I was looking at him too, and admitted I wanted to ask him the same question. He was dressed much nicer than he normally was. This was my sign that he had prepared more for me then just sitting and talking. "I could ask you the same thing." I said to him as I let out a small laugh. He shook his head. "You'll see what I've got in store for you in just a second. First, I just want to tell you how happy I am to see you. And how completely amazing you look." I smiled. We shared yet another warm, tight hug. Then he said, "Okay, enough of this. It's cold. Let's go inside."
