Once upon a time, there lived a young maiden called Rapunzel. She lived in the tallest tower in the kingdom with hair so long, so soft and so golden. None were sure how her existence came to be, only that she was guarded by a witch whose powers were immeasurable. The only solace Rapunzel had from this lonely life was a window from which she could see the entire kingdom and the glorious freedom she hoped to have one day. But alas, this hope was only a glimmer, an ember waiting for something or someone to coax it to life.
The witch who had imprisoned her had little to no compassion for the poor maiden but there was nothing the girl could say or do because the witch was the only person she had known in the whole seventeen years of her life. Not a single living soul could tell you the reason for the cruelty the witch had inflicted on Rapunzel. Rumours went around about her origins, some say the girl was traded for vegetables the witch grew in her garden, others say, the witch stole her from her parents to punish them for a wrong they committed against the witch. Who knows, one may never unravel this mystery surrounding Rapunzel but I will tell you a secret...........all will be revealed in the words that follow.
