Marinette leaned over her balcony, taking deep breaths of the sweet Paris air. The moon shone above, casting a pearly glow on the city of lights.
“Oh, Tikki,” Marinette sighed. “It’s so beautiful tonight.”
Tikki was nestled on Marinette’s shoulder, her eyes flickering as she struggled to keep them open. There had been a particularly difficult akuma earlier that day, and the pair were seconds away from collapsing. They would be asleep if it weren’t for the promise Chat Noir had made to her a few days earlier. Marinette thought Chat would have similar measurements to Adrien and since she wanted to do something nice for Adrien, had asked Chat to come over and be her model of sorts.
“Marinette,” Tikki whined. “Lets go to bed.” Marinette yawned but ignored Tikki, instead keeping her gaze fixed on the roof tops.
“Chat Noir should be here by now.” Marinette murmured and Tikki groaned.
“Maybe he’s too tired?” Tikki suggested.
Just then, Marinette heard something crashed in Marinette’s room, and she gasped as she peeked down. Chat Noir was laying crumpled on the floor, the window thrown wide open and the potted flower that had been sitting on the sill lay broken.
“Chat!” Marinette hissed as she scurried down the ladder and helped him up. Chat gave her a sheepish smile as he brushed off his suit.
“Sorry I’m late,” He said, sounding dazed. Marinette waved him off as she crouched down to scoop up the broken pot. Chat tried to help her, but he seemed distracted.
Marinette led him to her couch, and pulled out her sewing box. She already had a pattern laid out, and just needed a few measurements and direction from Chat. Marinette dragged the box to where Chat was, and he watched her curiously.
“What are you making?” He asked as he watched her take out pull out some fabric and fur, carefully laying it out before pulling out a measuring tape.
“I’m making a coat,” She said, and pulled the measuring tape across Chat’s wingspan and waist, writing down the measurements and making a note that it should be a little loose.
“For who?” Chat asked as Marinette sat on the floor in front of him and carefully cut the thick fabric. Marinette blushed a little, which caused Chat to lean forward and raise an eyebrow.
“What? I’m not allowed to make a coat just because? It’s getting cold out anyways,” Marinette’s face turned bright red and she bent her head low so Chat couldn’t see.
“Oh?” Chat’s lip quirked up, and he lifted Marinette’s chin.
“Yes, oh!” Marinette wretched her head away and pushed away Chat’s hands. “It’s cold, I need a new coat!” Chat Noir laughed as he watched Marinette get flustered.
“Then why do you need my measurements?” He asked. Marinette blushed deeper, if it's even possible to get even more red, and she huffed.
“Because,” She said firmly.
“Okayy,” Chat teased, before noticing the time on Marinette's phone. “Yikes, I gotta go. Sorry, Mari.” He said standing up and stretching. Marinette nodded, and went up to the balcony with him.
“Thanks for letting me measure you,” She said, leaning against the railing. “It should be done by tomorrow night. It’s fairly simple pattern.”
“I’ll come by tomorrow night, then.” Chat murmured as he picked up Marinette's hand and gently kissed it.
“Bye, Chat.” Marinette whispered, hoping the guise of the night covered her blush. Chat Noir leapt off her balcony and disappeared into the night. Marinette sighed as she climbed down her ladder and pulled her pigtails out, letting her hair fall around her shoulders. She pulled on her pajamas and collapsed into bed. Tikki snuggled against her collarbone, yawning and falling right back to sleep.
Marinette stared at the window that Chat had come through, her fuzzy vision only able to make out it's outline and the blurry shapes beyond. She wondered why Chat had been so late, and why when he first got here he seemed so...off. Marinette pushed those thoughts away and burrowed deeper into her blankets, slowly drifting off.Chat Noir burst through his open window, landing softy on his bedroom floor. He quietly swung his window shut before murmuring, “Claws off,” Plagg groaned when he came out of the transformation and landed on Adrien's bed. He complained about his lack of cheese, and Adrien ignored him as he got ready for bed.
It was nearly 1:30 am before Adrien slipped into bed, his thoughts fogged by his visit with Marinette. He didn't know why, but he felt a twinge of jealousy for whoever Marinette was making that coat for.
“Plagg,” Adrien whispered.”are you awake?”
“No.” Plagg groaned. Adrien rolled over so he was facing Plagg, who was snuggled in his blanket on a pillow. “Who do you think she's making the coat for?”
“Gee, I don’t know kid. Go to sleep.” Plagg’s voice tapered off as the kwamii fell asleep and Adrien sighed, unable to slow down his thoughts. Why did he even care? Adrien just couldn’t figure it out.
