Marinette raced out the bakery door after saying goodbye to her parents, her brain still fogged with sleep. The cold wednesday morning mist jolted her out of her cozy dreams.
“You’re going to be late, Marinette.” Tikki said from inside Marinette’s purse, her antenas peeking out.
“I know Tikki!” Marinette snapped as she stopped at the crosswalk. Marinette was exhausted. Yesterday's akuma had been particularly difficult and had left both her and Chat Noir scrambling. On top of that, she had just started a new sewing project for Adrien that she was almost but not quite done with. She just hoped today would be easier.
As Marinette rushed up the stairs and pushed through the dispersing crowd so she could get to her class on time, she bumped into someone. She stumbled back and was about to call out a “Sorry!” when he turned around.
It was Adrien.
Marinette’s whole face went red as she stuttered out an apology and brushed past him, her heart pounding in her ears. Why did she have to be so weird around him?
In class, Marinette spent the whole time glaring at the back of Adrien's head, wishing that she could stop being so awkward and weird around him. She knew it was childish and stupid. She barely even knew Adrien because she was so weird around him.
“Marinette?” Alya whispered from beside Marinette. “What’s wrong with you?” Marinette gave Alya a sheepish smile before shaking her head and waving Alya’s question away.
“Can you come over after school? I have something to show y-”
“Marinette! Alya!” Mrs. Bustier called from the front of the class, her face drawn tight in annoyance. “Is there anything you would like to share with the class?”  the two girls shook their heads, and Alya snickered at how red Marinette’s face was. Marinette ducked away, as she could feel Adrien looking at her. Why was today so embarrassing?
Marinette could feel Tikki’s reassuring presence in her purse, and she let her embarrassment simmer away.
After school, Alya told Marinette that she had to watch her sisters and couldn’t come over but she wanted to FaceTime around 7:30.
Marinette, after a long, embarrassing day, just wanted to go home and collapse in her bed. She didn’t even feel like sewing or FaceTiming with Alya later. It all sounded like too much to her. The sky was dark and Marinette could tell a storm was brewing. She felt even happier to be going home. Maybe get some hot cocoa and a cookie, she could curl up by the window with a blanket and a book….
Somewhere in the distance, Marinette heard a loud boom. She shuddered as she turned towards the noise, and already she could hear screams and the akuma victims laughter as they destroyed the city.
“Marinette!” Tikki hissed from her purse, and Marinette sighed as she ducked into an alleyway to transform.
“Tikki, spots on!” and with that, Ladybug swung her yoyo and called her partner in crime.

“Pound it!” the pair said in usion. Ladybug let out a sigh of relief, and she noticed that Chat Noir looked tired too. Ladybug thought back to the other night, and hoped her mask was fully covering her blush. She also hoped she wasn’t the reason he was so tired.
“Long day?” she asked him tentivitally. Chat glanced at her, but he looked so worried. His big green eyes looked clouded, and Ladybug felt something tug at her heartstrings.
“It doesn’t matter,” Chat Noir said, picking up her hand and bringing it to his lips. “I feel refreshed with you.”
“Silly kitty,” Ladybug murmured as he pressed a kiss to her hand. Ladybug heard her ear rings blip at the same time Chat’s ring did. She smiled at him before throwing her yoyo. “Get some rest, okay?” Ladybug tugged on the string and then swung away, worry in her heart and exhaustion in her bones.

Adrien leaned against a old building in a random alleyway. He could feel his phone buzzing in his pocket, and he didn’t need to check it to know it was his bodyguard or Nathile.
“Why don’t you go home, kid?” Plagg asked. Plagg looked as tired as Adrien felt, and Adrien felt a twinge of guilt for keeping them out longer than they needed to.
“I can’t be home right now,” Adrien said quietly, and Plagg’s gaze softened.
“Well, why don’t we visit Marinette? She lives over a bakery, surely they have some cheese. Right?” Plagg looked hopeful as he settled into Adrien’s bag. Adrien peeked out of the alleyway, and after making sure he didn’t see anyone that could compromised his mission, headed towards the Dupain-Cheng Bakery.
The storm had been brewing all day, and as Adrien made his way down the street the clouds began to weep. Thick droplets of water splattered into Adrien’s hair and dripped down his face. By the time he got to the bakery, his clothes and hair were drenched in rain water. Adrien pulled open the heavy door, and stepped inside. He wrapped his arms around himself as he stepped up to the counter, and was surprised to find Marinette at the counter.
“A-Adrien?” Marinette's pretty face was tinted pink, and Adrien smiled at her as he wondered what had her so flustered. He thought bitterly of the guy she was making the coat for, but quickly pushed those thoughts away. Maybe she was just surprised to see him here.
“Hey Marinette,” Adrien said as he scanned the glass case with all the deserts in it. He couldn’t even imagine what Plagg wanted. A cookie? A piece of cake? Pie? A macaron? Everything looked delicious.
“Oh, you’re Adrien right?” A short lady with a bob of shiny black hair was standing in the doorway to the kitchen. She smiled at Adrien, and Adrien realized this woman was Marinette’s mom who he’s only talked to a few times. “Marinette has told us so much about you.”
“Mom!” Marinette’s already red face darkened a shade. Her mom only laughed and moved up to the counter.
“What can we get you?” Marinette’s mom asked.
“I’m not sure.” Adrien returned his gaze to the glass case and silently willed Plagg to give him a sign as to what he wanted.
“Well, I’m sure Marinette can help you pick something out. I’m needed in the kitchen.” It was so quick Adrien might have imagined it, but he could have sworn she winked at him before going back into the kitchen.
“I didn’t know you worked here,” Adrien said to Marinette, who looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here with him.
“I- um, well I uh, well I usually don’t? They have a um, a catering event tomorrow and so I had to work out here.” Marinette said quietly. “So, um, what can I uh, get you?”
“What would you recommend?” Adrien asked, holding Marinette’s gaze before she tore it away to look in the glass case.
“Any-anything. It’s all good,”
“I’ll take 10 macaroons then, please.” Adrien hoped Plagg liked macaroons. Marinette pulled out a waxy paper bag with DUPAIN-CHENG BAKERY stamped across the front. She quietly asked Adrien which macaroons he wanted before sliding the bag across the counter.
Outside, thunder rumbled and Adrien wished he has taken longer to decide what he wanted. He didn’t want to be outside in the rain right now.
“How much?” Adrien asked, digging through his bag for some cash. He felt Plagg push some notes into his hand.
“Oh- oh, it's free.” Marinette finally met his gaze. “It’s on the house.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes,” Marinette said firmly. “Just come back, okay?”
“Alright,” Adrien smiled at Marinette before picking up the bag. “Thank you. For everything.” Adrien thought back to the other night, and any other time he had come to visit Marinette as Chat Noir. She was his anchor on his bad days, his calm in the storm. And she didn’t even know it.
Adrien waved goodbye and turned back to the door. He deflated when he realized it was still raining and he would have to call his bodyguard to come get him. He wanted to stay out a little longer, home was a place that was less desirable than the heavy rain.
“Adrien, wait!” Adrien turned around just in time to see Marinette rush up the steps that led to her home upstairs, her pigtails swinging behind her.
He stood awkwardly waiting for him, and quietly sneaked some macaroons into his bag for Plagg to eat. When Marinette came back downstairs, she was carrying an umbrella. Adrien realized with a jolt that it was his umbrella, the very one that he had given to her on the first day of school.
As Marinette handed the umbrella to Adrien, a strike of lighting split the sky.

Sorry this chapter is lowkey boring? anyways, I'll be updating once a week hopefully.
