The air thrashed around her shrunken body. She pulled her coat closer. Her pale eyes got paler. "Come on, Finnegan, she's not out here. Let's go."
"I swear I saw her around here yesterday."
I'm not crazy.
"I'm cold," she said. And something about her tone got me.
I turned around, facing her, "She's cold too, Mia, she's been cold her entire life."
"But... I'm really cold." Her tongue clicked and she looked away from me, "Sorry,..."
Then her phone rang and I'm glad it did. I continued to walk up the street, she kept an eye on me, but focused on her call. Probably Dean. I personally, dislike Dean. You'd dislike Dean too, I hope. He made a joke yesterday, something about Mia's body and something about sex and it made me feel very uncomfortable, it should have made Mia feel uncomfortable too, but she just giggled. I think they're having sex now. I feel very bad that Mia would have sex with a boy who makes jokes about her body.
I turned back to her as I was nearing a stop sign. She was running up the hill to where I was. She looked distraught.
"Hey, Finn, that was Adelia..."
I didn't say anything.
"She didn't want me to tell you, but.."'
"She didn't want you to tell me..?"
Oh.
"No, Finn, she doesn't hate you."
"No, Finn, you didn't do anything wrong."
"Finn."
