Chapter 1 - Where?

Marinette's POV.

I sat at the kitchen table, mouth hanging open, staring at my parents. "What?" I repeated.

"Marinette, honey, we know this is a lot to take in. But it's for the good of our family." Sabine said gently.

"Ok, so let me get this straight, you and dad are Chinese royalty and you have to go to China, because?"

"We made a deal, for one year every decade, we will move to China, to fulfill our duties."

"So, when do we leave?"

"Marinette, we don't want you to have to leave your friends and your school. We have decided that you will be adopted, for a year. So you can stay in Paris. After that, you can come back home."

"Oh mum, thank you so much. I love you dad, mum."

"We love you too honey." Tom said brightly.

"When do you leave?" I questioned.

"Tomorrow. A social worker is arriving today. So you can find someone to care for you." Sabine explained.

"Ok mum. I'll be in my room." I crawled up the stairs and collapsed on my chaise.

"Tikki what am I going to do?" I sighed.

Tikki flew out of hiding. "Marinette, your parents have jobs as royals, they need to do this. What ever problems we are faced with, we can get through. Because remember you are Ladybug!" She did my famous Ladybug pose. I laughed, "Ok Tikki. We can do this. But first I need a patrol to clear my mind."

"Just say the words, Marinette."

"Tikki, spots on!" In a flash of pink light, I was transformed into Ladybug. I climbed onto my balcony to see Chat Noir vaulting himself across the city. Quickly I swing away, following him closely. He lands suddenly, on the top of a building, and falls to his knees, he looks out over the city and sighs. "Chat?" He twists his head in my direction, "Oh, Ladybug. It's you." I walk over and sit next to him. "Why are you upset Kitty?"

"M'lady, it's my father. And my house. Ever since my mother disappeared, it's been so lonely. It's always quiet. I'm always so alone."

"I'm so sorry Cat."

"It's ok. I have you M'lady. Why are you out here anyway?"

"My parents are moving away. But I'm staying here. I obviously can't stay alone but..." I clamped my mouth shut. Realising I had said way too much.

Chat Noir's POV.

"My parents are moving away. But I'm staying here. I obviously can't stay alone but..." She sealed her lips and looked away. I gaped, wide eyed. M'lady was never this open with me. "I better go Chat." She rose from her spot beside me. I reached for her wrist. But she had already swung away. I sighed.

And started to go back to my house. I jumped into my window and detransformed, leaving an exhausted Plagg lazing in my hand. "Camembert..." I sat him down and went to fetch his stinky, old cheese. When I can back he was waiting expectantly. In a bite he ate his cheese. I looked out my window over the small park. I saw children playing and running around. They all had friends, I did too. But at school, once I got home it was just me again. Alone.
