I miss the Primary School days when you're mother would leave a cute note on your napkin saying something like, "我爱你! 请您用餐!" (i love you! enjoy your meal!) or when the boys would run from the girls screaming "ew cooties!" I wish it could go back, but it can't, and it never will.

"Xiuying, class was dismissed, like, five minutes ago. Why haven't you left yet?"

I look to the right to see the only face I come to school for.

"Shancai, you should go first. I need to stay back and catch up on work. Okay?" I reply smiling brightly at her.

"Okay, text me when you get home. If you forget I'll just assume you're dead," She cheers jokingly. "I'm going first. Remember to text me!"

If only she knew it might not be a joke. If only I could bring myself to tell her that there is, in fact, a chance that I might not make it home tonight. I sigh and rest my head on my arms, looking at the empty seats next to me.

Though I've been getting very much sleep lately, I still manage to feel tired after a long day stretching my mind.

I fall backwards onto the warmth of my bed. I missed this feeling. Comfort, silence. Don't get me wrong, the hospital room is pretty quiet, but the constant beeping of the machine next to you isn't very relaxing when you're trying to sleep.

"If you forget I'll just assume you're dead."

I haven't died, yet. I wonder, when will the cancer take over my organs, killing them off one by one, until it finally shuts down my entire body?

I grab my phone and unlock it, ready to text Shancai.

Me:
嗨, 白痴, 我安全回家.
(hey, dummy, i'm home safely.)

Idiot 💞:
这是怎么回事! 在你身上堆积了多少工作？(what's up! how much work was piled up on you?)

Me:
足够. 你能寄给我你的笔记吗? 只是图片会很好. 
(enough. can you send me your notes? pictures will be fine.)

Idiot 💞:
不能. 对不起莹我在我的阿姨家. 
(can't. sorry ying. i'm at my aunts house.)

Me:
没关系. 我稍后会跟你说假的.
(it's alright. i'll talk to you later dummy.)

Idiot 💞:
再见

(Mom! I'm going to the café! I'll be back before it's dark!)

"好的. 你最好在天黑之前回来."
