"Michael? Come and eat your lunch!"

"Coming mother!"

Little Mikey ran down the stairs with a big smile on his face. They were already done rehearsing the new dance routines today, and Joseph didn't get mad. Not even once! Not until Jermaine started arguing with Tito about some girl, at least. But that was none of Michael's concern. Now he had a couple of hours off to do whatever he wanted, before they were going to study ancient history with their tutor. And this was the last day before Christmas, that the tutor was going to be there, because she was going to Switzerland for the holidays to celebrate.

"Mother? Why can't we celebrate Christmas, like everyone else?"

"Oh, Michael. We've been through this many times before. We can't do that. It's against our religion, and it's simply something we can't support."

Little Mikey was silent for a while, but lighted up, when he thought of something.

"Can I play in the backyard afterwards?" he asked pleadingly.

"Of course, my dear. Just don't play ball near the rose bushes again. Even though it's winter, they still can get ruined."

A few weeks earlier, he and Randy had played soccer, and ended up braking several branches, and ravished half of the flower bed, because the ball always seemed to end up there. And they got so full of scratches, and got dirt on their shoes, after picking up the ball, that it became impossible to blame their other siblings. Luckily Joseph wasn't there, but Katherine had reprimanded them quite harshly, and ordered them to fix it and clean themselves up. And now, the bed of roses was almost as good as it was before the 'attack'.

Little Mikey was walking around in the garden, playing with a stick, when he spotted her. The girl next door had always made him feel a certain way, ever since she and her family moved in about half a year ago. He was only nine years old, and didn't know much about sexuality, but he loved the way she made his heart pounded extra in his chest. She was much older than him, almost nineteen, and was a fully developed woman, that Mikey always admired in secret. Especially when she was outside in her cute, little bikini, getting tanned. He knew Jermaine had been trying to hook up with her, but she just wasn't interested.

Today, she was wearing a coat that hugged her figure nicely even though it was thick and warm, and she had beautiful pink roses on her cheeks from the cold. Michael was also wearing a his winter jacket, but he was starting to get cold, anyway, even though the sun tried its best to warm up the cold air.

"Hello there. Michael, is it?" she suddenly asked, and Mikey blushed tremendously. He didn't even know she had seen him, and now she came closer.

"How are you? I've never quite met you yet. I'm Erin."

She reached out her hand to the little boy, that shyly shook it.

"Yeah, I know. Jermaine told me."

"Oh, that... I..."

"Don't worry. I know he can be a pain in the ass..."

Little Mikey widened his eyes over his language. And in front of a girl...!

"I mean... He can be quite annoying," he corrected himself. And Erin giggled in a way that made thousands of butterflies to explode in his stomach.

"Do you want to come inside? It's cold out here. And I made cookies last night. You can have some, if you want."

"Y-yeah. I'd love that."

Mikey couldn't believe his own ears. Erin invited him in! Jermaine had never gotten passed the main door, and only once, into their front yard. And now he followed this beautiful girl as closely as he could, without it being awkward, just to catch how she smelled. She smelled just like a meadow of summer flowers.

"You can hang your coat on the rack there," she said and pointed next to the door. Her own coat, she hung over the back of a chair, before she disappeared into the kitchen. And Mikey walked around, carefully not to touch anything, and studied the beautiful furniture. Some pictures in various sized frames, were standing on a cupboard. It was pictures of her parents and of her when she was a baby. And there were pictures from when she grew up, all up to one newer picture. And she looked perfect on every one of them. Especially at that recent picture. She was posing in the sun, with her eyes closed towards the rays of the sun, and a little smile played upon her lips. Those lips. Mikey had never kissed anyone before. Only his mother. And now he wondered how it would be like. How it would be like to kiss her. A different feeling gathered in his stomach.

"I was on summer holiday in Europe there," she said, noticing which picture Mikey was looking at. And Mikey suddenly got anxious if she thought it was rude that he'd been staring at it. But if she did, she didn't show it.

"You can come into the kitchen now. I made hot chocolate for us. We need something warm today, don't you think?"

Mikey nodded shyly, and followed her suit. Her scent was even stronger now, and the feeling Mikey had inside of him, just wouldn't go away. It only grew stronger. But when he saw the delicious cookies on the table, and smelled the hot chocolate, he got distracted enough to think of something else. At least for a while.

"So, what do you want for Christmas this year, Michael?" she asked curiously.

"Uhm..."
He hesitated. He wasn't sure if he wanted to tell her that they didn't celebrate Christmas at all. It made him feel different, and not in a good way. But he did tell, eventually.

"You don't celebrate Christmas?!" she exclaimed.
"That's... Huh. I didn't know that. So you don't get any presents?"

Mikey shook his head, and studied her gorgeous, blue eyes, and her long, blonde hair that sprawled over her shoulders and chest in loose curls. Her chest... He thought they had gotten bigger now, than last time he saw her in their backyard this summer. He loved to watch them bounce a little, when she helped her mother to remove the weed from their flower beds, or when she played volleyball with her best friend, Aurora. And now, she was sitting right in front of him, almost close enough to touch her, and he had to force his mouth closed. It wasn't until later that he understood that she was his first crush.

"Do you like it?"

Little Mikey didn't quite know what she was talking about. He was so embarrassed that she had caught him staring, and because of the intense warmth he felt inside, that he almost couldn't talk.

"I bought it when I visited my aunt in Sacramento last month."

She touched the silver necklace that wrapped around her neck, and the little pendant shaped like a dove, hung right above her cleavage. Mikey just blinked his big, brown eyes. But then she smiled, and leaned forward on her elbows.

"You know what? I think this year, you should get a little present. We can keep it a secret between me and you."

Mikey swallowed, not really processing what she was trying to say. He watched her get up, and walk around the table to where he was seated. And then she took off her necklace and put it around his neck. She admired him for a moment. The necklace looked good on him. And his deep brown eyes were beautifully framed by long, black eyelashes.

"Do you like it?" she asked, and smiled a little. Mikey just nodded and rubbed his lips together.

Without really thinking it through, she leaned forward again and gave him a warm hug, and Mikey held his breath when he felt her lips on his cheek. It was just a short peck, but it created the most powerful feeling he'd ever experienced. And when she retracted, he just wanted to wrap his arms around her, and hold her for an eternity longer. But he didn't dare. She was a grown up, and he was still just a child. But as for now, he couldn't be happier. He gave her a big smile of gratitude, and listened to her soft voice:

"Merry Christmas, Michael."
