I Won't Give Up

I walked into work the next day. When you reminded me about my shoelaces, my heart beat faster and my lips curved into a gummy smile. It was frankly quite caring of you to tell me that. I came to terms with my feelings and I realised that I actually had a crush on you.

I hid a rose behind my back and waited for you to turn around. You looked at me with the same cold hard gaze. I nervously showed you the rose and gave it to you. The tips of my ears turned pink and I blushed.

"I like you," I whispered audibly.

You didn't say anything. I met your gaze. You nodded before tossing the rose into the bin. My heart was instantly crushed. The rose cost me a lot. It cost more than my normal meal. I was poor and the rose was the first thing I'd ever bought that I didn't need.

I only bought my needs. Not my wants.

Tears built up in my eyes but you didn't notice them. I quickly blinked them away when I remembered your father's words.

You still had fresh wounds from your past relationship. I understood that.

But, I still wouldn't give up.
