The child looked at the fake smile, one that stuck in his mind.

Didn’t know what to think, with fear or with care?

Then decided that after a while, the false warmth it provided.

The child, his rage subsided, but the smile burned into his mind.

If he were one-of-a-kind, maybe he’d see how special he is…

Then decided that pain wasn’t real, a result of an individual’s lies provided.

The child felt fondness towards the one on his mind…

Maybe he happened to be one-of-a-kind as is?

Then decided “may as well ask” the loved ones he was provided.

The child displayed no negative emotions in mind…

He gathered up his dignity, to ask them what they thought of him

Then decided to just… not.

The child lived in agony the next few years, happiness never on his mind.
