Beasts that guard the chest,
Slumber in the moonless night,
Protecting what is sacred,
That which should not escape.
For if it does, this bleached earth,
My lovelorn broken heart,
This arid curse of forsaken stretch,
Scorched lifeless by the elements,
Would be an oasis filled with life,
Lush abound; a sight for sore eyes.
For if it does, my futile voyage,
My failed odyssey to slay the fiends -
Cruelty, Vanity and Indifference
In the heart of my beloved
Lady of amaranthine loveliness,
Would have meaning, some sense,
For the box treasures her words,
Words that she never said.
