It was 3 weeks later, and the town was in full celebration. Manchez had paid the Narnian kingdom and signed a peace treaty, promising to recognize their independence and never to attack again. The plans to rebuild Cair Paravel were being finalized, a school was being built in the capital, and a food storage was being built as well. To top it all off, it was the day of the royal wedding.
Many people had wondered who would take over the throne after the kings and queens would pass. They were all royal, and would most likely all produce heirs, but whose heirs would have the right to that throne. Although many long though that as King Peter was technically highest in rank, his children would take the throne, but now that impression had changed. Surely, the heirs of a king and a queen of Narnia, should rule the Kingdom, and safeguard their parents' vision for the future.
In the palace, Lucy and Mrs. Pevensie helped Susan to get ready for the wedding. It would be held by the tree, where they shared their first kiss. And the celebrations would continue at the castle, in the ballroom, and the courtyard. It would be the biggest celebration the Kingdom had seen in quite a few years.
As Susan's ivory wedding dress was laced up at the back, she looked at herself in the mirror. She would be lying if she did not feel slightly nervous.
'Breathe, darling. Butterflies are normal. It is a big step to take, and in your case so many people will be watching. But I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. Caspian loves you, and I know you love him too. Just breathe, and focus on the man you love.'
Susan smiled. Her mother had finished lacing up the dress, and Lucy walked towards her with Susan's crown in her hands. Susan knelt down slightly, allowing Lucy to put the crown, and the attached veil on top her head. When she rose, she looked in the mirror once more and smiled.
'I can't believe this is actually happening. I am going to marry Caspian... In front of all the Narnian people, in a place I love so much.'
By her side, Lucy dressed in light blue and with her own crown upon her head, smiled widely. 'You look breath taking, Su. I know Caspian will absolutely love it.'
'I hope so.'
The men stood outside by the tree, checking whether everything was ready for the ceremony, when their thoughts were interrupted by a roar. Peter and Caspian looked up.
'Aslan.' Peter smiled.
'Hello Peter, Caspian. You have done very well. You have brought peace to Narnia, and protected the people in it, uniting them in the process. Narnia could not have gotten a better group of Kings and Queens.'
Peter and Caspian bowed down their head in respect. Aslan rarely showed up, and now the first thing he did was to complement their achievements.
'Have you come for the wedding?' Caspian asked.
The great lion laughed. 'I would not miss it for the world. In fact, if you would let me, it would be my honour to officiate the wedding.'
The sun was high in the sky when the band played a beautiful soft melody, all the guests stood up and watched as Susan walked down the aisle, her arm looped through Peter's. Her face slightly concealed by the veil covering her face, but her smile unmistakable. Peter, at her side, smiled with pride. He look at the man standing below the tree; his friend, his brother in arms, and soon to be his brother in law. He knew that there would never be any man more deserving of his dear sister, and was happy she found the love of her life.
As they reached the tree he placed Susan's hand in Caspian's, and clasped his friend on the shoulder.
'Welcome everyone, friends, family, and beloved Narnians, to this very special day for our kingdom. Ever since King Caspian called the help of the Kings and Queens of Old to fight his tyrannical uncle, a bond has been forged between the Original Narnians, and the Telmarines who have come to come to call this land their home. From that moment on, Narnia had 5 monarchs, not one, not 4, but all of them combined. Today, that bond is strengthened, and sealed. Today, 2 people who care as deeply for Narnia and its people, as they do for each other, will be joined in marriage. Their compassion, justice and strength will secure Narnia's future.'
Aslan looked at Susan. 'Queen Susan the Gentle, will you take this man, King Caspian the Saviour, as your beloved husband, to love him till the end of your days, and stand by him through all trials life would present you?'
'I do.' Susan smiled as she looked into Caspian's warm brown eyes, overjoyed at the thought that after today she would able to call him her husband.
'And do you, King Caspian the Saviour, take Queen Susan the Gentle as your beloved wife, to love her till the end of your days, and stand by her through all trials life would present you?'
'Of course I do.'
'Then I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.'
Caspian bent down his head and gently kissed Susan on the lips, as all around him the crowd erupted into applause and cheers. As he pulled back he looked upon the smiling face of Susan; his wife. He smiled widely himself, feeling fore joyous than he ever had before.
In the castle halls, and the streets of the Narnian Capital the celebrations went on until the early morning lights once again brought light to the land. For many days to follow people commented about the sore feet they had gotten after so many hours of dancing, however no one complained. The fireworks lighting up the night sky around midnight had been visible from many many miles away, and music was heard throughout the entire night. By morning light, as per his tradition, Aslan had said goodbye to the Kings and Queens he loved so much. Lucy cried and hugged him, begging him to come by more often.
'I promise I will be there to officiate your wedding, dear one.' He said, making Lucy smile, and Peter look worried at the thought. A look which of course earned him a laugh from his oldest sister.
The celebrations would go down in Narnian History as the greatest wedding in the history of the Kingdom. Susan and Caspian would go down in history as the King and Queen who changed the land. They were blessed with a son a little over a year after their wedding whom they named Peter in honour of his uncle. Their daughter was born 3 years after their son, and was named Helen in honour of Susan's mother. Susan and Caspian's descendants ruled Narnia for many ages to come, and even though they faced trials and tribulations at times, their reigns were peaceful.
At age 65, Caspian decided it was time for him take a step back, and passed his crown along to his son; King Peter the second, who ruled wisely, advised by his cousins; the sons and daughters of Edmund, Peter and Lucy. Susan and Caspian moved to Cair Paravel, joining her siblings there, where they lived until they died peacefully, and happily after a well lived life full of love, leaving behind a peaceful Narnia.
