Kristina POV
“He what?” Ray looked at me.
I stood frozen in place. A tear spilled over my cheek.
“You stupid asshole!” I bellowed. I punched Jeremy in the stomach.
He returned it, yes were immature enough to still have fist fights.
“Stop!” Ray pulled us apart dodging one of my punches.
“Sorry Ray,” Jeremy muttered walking to his room.
“What does he mean?” he made me look at him.
He let out a sigh of frustration and calmed down a little but he was still tense.
“He tried to more than once,” I gave up fighting against everything I let myself fall to the floor and I looked out into the distance, I continued.
“But he stopped when you beat the crap out of him,” I smiled for a second at the memory. His half smile faltered at my discomfort.
“What else happened?” he asked softly.
“I-he-we, uh, I snapped at him when he came one night. We got into a fist fight and he went soft on me. When he thought I couldn’t go anymore he came on me. I broke his nose and he broke my rib. I tried calling the police but he threatened to rape me if I did so I just, didn’t. No one was home so he tried to anyway, my brother came home a little drunk but not drunk enough to miss a punch,” I let out a dry laugh.
“He kept going asking me when to stop and I didn’t say anything. He almost killed him, Ray. I didn’t know what to do, I was only lucky enough that he didn’t remember anything,” I let out a choking sob not wanting to let it out.
“But he knew it had something to do with you so that’s when the rumors started,” he said in understanding.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you I just could-” he shushed me.
“It’s ok. I’m glad you did tell me now though. Or who knows what I would’ve done before…” he trailed off. He looked back at me wiping my tears away pulling me into a hug.
I didn’t think that telling him things would make me feel so much better, well I did but just let my stubbornness get to me. A huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and I felt like I could move on.
“Are you going to be ok?” I nodded giving him a weak smile.
I remember the first time Ray was with me and my brother came home drunk. He was shaken but none the less made sure I was going to be fine before he left just like he always does. I felt a little uncomfortable wanting to ask him but I wasn’t sure if I should.
“What happened today… if it doesn’t work out promise me that it will stay the same no matter what?” I blurted.
“Nothing could ever keep me mad at you for long, and what could go wrong?”
“Just promise,” I begged.
“Ok I promise jeez woman, I’m not gonna leave the country if something goes wrong,” he planted a kiss on my head as he walked out.
