Jamie above 😍 anyone know who he is?!

My life was fine as I got older, Spec was still there obviously but I didn't try and mention it to anyone anymore.

The first few years, every time I saw Spec following me, I would try and point it out to my friends. They would look in exactly the direction where Spec was and stare at me confusedly. It annoyed me that they wouldn't just say that they could see it as well, but they'd always shrug their shoulders and walk away.

After a while I gave up trying to point Spec out, I realised that people would think that of started going mad if I did.

*FLASHBACK*

9 YEARS OLD

I'd been playing in the playground at school with Nelly, when Spec appeared again.

The past few days I had been really annoyed at Spec popping up, following me without a reason and I didn't even know what it was or what it wanted!

I was on the swings with Nelly, when I realised I'd spaced out, watching Spec moving around my head.

"Xalia?" (Pronounced Zay-lia)

"Xalia?! Is that fairy thing here again?" Nelly screeched from beside me.

"Hm?" I shake my head and turn to look at Nelly.

"Xay, is there really anything there or are you joking with me?"

"Nel, I promise you there really is something there, and it's following me!" I tell her for what seems like the hundredth time.

"Well can you tell it to go away 'cuz we're trying to play." She asks me.

I sit there puzzled for a minute.

"Go on."

I sigh and look up towards Spec.

"Can you please go away and stop following me?" I ask it.

"No, don't be so nice." Nel says from beside me.

I sigh again.

"Spec, go away and stop bothering me." I shout.

"Good." Nelly praises.

"Is it gone?" She asks looking around.

I look up and huff. Spec was still happily buzzing around near my head.

"Yeah." I say, thinking that if I said no she'd make me start screaming at it again and embarrassing myself.

We, or should I say I, had already started drawing a crowd, it was mostly the popular kids who were whispering, then pointing and laughing. At me.

A boy was then shoved out of the crowd laughing, towards Nelly and I.

But it wasn't just any boy. It was Jamie Saw.

Jamie was our years golden boy. He was cute, funny, got good grades, was popular and was loved by everyone.

Including me.

I'd had a crush on him for ages. But so had every other girl in my year.

And he was coming over to talk to me!
I was ecstatic, thinking he was coming over to confess his undying love and how he would love to push me on the swing.

He waltzed over to us and stopped directly in front of me. He turned his head at Nelly and winked.

Oh yeah, he was a player at the fine age of 9.

He then turned to me and smirked.

"So Xalia, have you got an imaginary friend?" He asked.

I sat there gaping for a minute.

"And please don't try and deny it, we all saw your little scene where you had a nice chat. So what's his name?" He asked smirking.

"Um..uh, it doesn't have a name and I... Uh... It doesn't talk." I stammered.

"Ok, but what do you call it?" He asked again.

"Um.. Spec." I said quietly.

"Spit?!" He exclaimed laughing.

"Why'd you call it Spit?!"

I blushed and kept quiet, I didn't want to correct him and say that I called it Spec.

"Okay, Spit, lets leave wittle ol' Xalia alone and you can go back to wherever you came from." Jamie says to the air.

"Okay?" He now turns to me.

I nod.

"Come on then Spit, let's go over to my friends." He says turning back towards the crowd.

"B..but, Jamie, it..c...can't hear you. I..it's n..not real." I stutter.

"I know, I was talking to you." He winked.

Great.

I stood up and grabbed Nelly's arm to drag her with me. We then walked slowly behind Jamie and made our way over to the crowd.

"Everyone," Jamie addressed the crowd.

"You all know Xalia, the girl with the imaginary friends, can you believe that she doesn't even think her own imaginary friend is real?!"

There were murmurs and laughs from the crowd as I hid my face in Nelly's shoulder.

"You know what's even funnier?! She calls it Spit! So, from now on, the freak, Xalia, would love to be known as Spit!" He shouted.

He turned around and smirked at me, he then stepped to the side so that the whole crowd could see me.

"Oh look, here's Spit now!" He exclaimed pointing at me.

I felt tears prick my eyes and I ran away back to the swings, humiliated.

I sat, crying feeling sorry for myself.
I heard Jamie call to Nelly, asking if she wanted to join them instead of having to hang out with a weirdo like me.

This made me cry even more.

"They're not worth it."

I looked up to see a boy standing next to me.

He was thin and tall, he had light blonde hair and electric blue eyes. His face was splattered with slight freckles and there were dimples on his cheeks were he was smiling at me.

"Thanks." I smiled, sniffing.

"Can I hang out with you and Nelly?" He asked.

"She's coming back over here now."
I nodded and smiled.

"I'm Paul." He introduced.

"Xalia." I said.

"I know."

*END OF FLASHBACK*

Paul and I have been best friends ever since.

I couldn't say the same for Nelly though.

Hey guys!
Just couldn't wait to post this so yeah, more flashbacks to come before the story starts. Do you like the flashbacks? I just think it helps you know why she's such an outcast.
