I hear his mixed footsteps on the airport floor the phone receiver.

"I love you, sweetheart. Please, I'll be home in a couple months."

"I l-l-love you too." My voice stutters as I try to keep it cool. Don't cry don't cry don't cry. The repetitiveness of my thoughts keeps my true emotions hidden from the world. Like they should be.

Life can't do anything but rip at my heart.

I used to live in a small house on the west coast with a stable life- I had a good school, friends, and semi-stable parents. Now I am forced into a torturous new life that I never wanted or would have traded for. I was fine with blending into the masses, but my mother had changed everything.

I miss dad. He had officially left my old home. My real home. He needed to collect his supplies from his workshop. Dad was supposed to come to our new home on the east coast before he set out for his couple month business trip off in France. However, there was an extreme business opportunity on the day of our 'family' opening-house party today.

I say goodbye and hang up the phone. Looking at the screen, I see the glimmer of tears in my dark reflection. He was at the airport. In Paris. Halfway across the world.

Once I calm my breathing and wipe my face. I consider my situation.

Later, at the dinner table, mom and I glare daggers at each other over the cold, empty meal.

What did I ever do to deserve this?
