School finally ended a few hours later. The day seemed as if it were longer than it is.
I walked down the almost empty halls, and to the doors.
"Hello!" I heard a voice say from behind me, opening the door for me. I turned around and smiled when I noticed it was Jackson.
"Thanks." I smiled, walking out the door. "No problemo!" He said while giggling.
"I have a question." He said while walking outside with me.
"What is it?" I looked at him.
"How come you don't seem happy?"
I hesitated, and smiled again. "I am happy. I've just had a few hard weeks lately, with moving and everything." I thought back to how my parents had died. I was far from being happy, but I didn't want to ruin making a new friend. I just met Jackson, I'm sure he wouldn't like it if I told him all of my shitty problems.
"Okay, I was just wondering." He said.
I smiled as I started walking home. "Not gonna take the bus?" Jackson asked.
"I hate the bus. It's too noisy."
"Harry is on the bus, isn't he?"
"I've only met you today and you know me better than I know myself." I said, causing him to laugh.
"You really need to stop stressing about Harry. He used to bully me too, it's just his personality. He has a right to be mad at everyone. His dad left him when he was only a kid." Jackson explained.
"That sucks..." I looked down, remembering how my dad had been abusive to my mother. My dad had purposely crashed the car, he had been drunk driving.
"You sure you're okay?" He looked at me, noticing I was spacing out. "Yeah...yeah, I'm fine." I smiled reasurringly.
"Could I possibly go to your house? I would invite you over but my room is a mess..." He laughed at himself, causing me to giggle.
"Yeah, of course! I'm sure Angela wouldn't mind."
"Who's Angela?"
"My foster mom." I said, looking down.
"Foster mom? What happened to your parents?" He asked, he was just realizing I never said a word about them.
"Car crash...I don't want to talk about it, okay? Lets just go to my house." I said, starting to walk.
"Okay." He smiles, knowing I wasn't in the mood to talk about. He was different from others. He didn't pressure me into talking about them, he just dropped the subject. I like that.
"Okay." I said back, knowing I had just quoted my favorite book.
"THE FAULT IN OUR STARS!" We both yelled, and cracked up laughing.
"Oh my God, you read that too?!" He looked at me, smiling widely. "Heck yes! It's my favorite book in the whole wide world!" I exclaimed.
"I have a feeling we're going to be best friends." He said, putting an arm around my shoulder as we walked to my house.
Little did I know what was going to happen in the next few months, that this boy with the red streaks in his hair, would be the best and worst thing that ever happened to me.
