Chapter 1 (part 2)

Everyday feels the same, nothing really happens in this small town. Everything is always so still, and if I closed my eyes for awhile, then opened them. Everything would still be the same. I was outside sitting on the porch in a wooden rocking chair, gazing at the sun set over the enormous flower field. My life had always been slow and calm, until that day.

I walked into the kitchen to get a snack after just planting the new chrysanthemum seeds. Ms.Grey was leaning on the counter talking to someone on the phone, since when did she learn how to use her phone. Then I saw the old woman place the speaker of the phone close to her mouth and cough very dramatically. I raised an eyebrow at her, why was she trying to act sick. The person on the other end sounded very worried. She then started grinning very big and did a little dance.

"Oh, really!" She then spun and around and noticed me watching her mischievous scheme unfold, her eyes lit up and she placed her finger over her mouth and whispered "Keep it a secret."

"Ok, then I'll be waiting for you at 5:30 pm" she then said goodbye and put her phone on the counter, it was an old flip phone that had a pink trim and was all white.

"Who were you lying to Ms.Grey?" I asked her with a smirk spread across my face.

"I don't know what your talking about" she fluffed her silver short hair and avoided my eye contact.

"Why were you pretending to be sick?" I crouched down to reach the same height as the old woman and looked her in the eyes.

"Ok fine, i called my granddaughter, you know her" she broke and told me about how much she missed her.

"So you pretend you were sick to get her to visit" I stood up straight and made a confused face.

"It's the only way" she made a fist and hit it against her palm.

"Whatever" I turned away and opened the fridge.

"If you're hungry I can make some dinner for you" she always loved to cook, especially in the spacious kitchen of my parents house. I closed the fridge and smiled.

"It's only 3:00pm,we can wait till you're granddaughter gets here" I said sarcastically

"Ugh fine" the old woman pouted and crossed her arms then left the kitchen.
