Everything was dark. My tiny body trembles from the cold that had seeped inside of the shell of darkness that encases me. It is lonely, a feeling that I have become accustomed to. Faint sounds of life fluttered outside of my prison, taunting me. My foot shoots out from cuddling against my chest and struck my prison wall. How much longer will I be trapped in this world of nothingness? How much longer until I can stretch my delicate wings that ache?
I strike again, my foot aching from exhaustion. A streak of light bursts into my vision. Blinded, I furiously blink my sensitive eyes and strike the wall that encases me. Again and again, more light filling my blank world. The sounds of life crescendoed into a beautiful song, welcoming me to the world I now inhabit.
With one final blow the shell I was trapped in for so long finally gave way. I hungrily stick my head out, basking in the beauty that has evaded me for so long. I pull my tired body out of the remains of my shell, shaking the small shards and remains from my skin.
With wide eyes, I take in everything around me. There are trees towering above me, their leaves hanging delicately on their arms, waving at me in the wind. White smoke drifts through the sky delicately and a bright sun shimmers against the blue abyss, sending rays of light through the white smoke. My eyes drift down, mesmerized by the colors entering my vision. On the ground are patches of flowers, each trying to outshine the other. Hesitantly, I stick out my foot and let the petals slip through my toes. Beneath and around the flowers, strands of grass were delicately waving in the breeze. It is beautiful.
Soon everything becomes normal to me, no longer as new as it once was. Thoughts begin to bounce around my mind, each fighting for an answer. Why was I here? How did I get here? Is there anyone nearby or am I here all alone? Why do I know so much about this world when I have just entered it? My soul craves for answers but I understand that I may not get them. Eventually I may, but for now, I will be in a world shrouded in mystery.
The sound of pawsteps brings me out of my thoughts, and my thin tail whips around me in worry. Who was there? Maybe I wasn't alone after all...
My eyes locked onto the lithe body of a deer. Its legs move gracefully beneath its body as it waded through the undergrowth. Antlers stood proudly on his head and his fur reflected the light.
I moved slightly, hesitating if I should approach the deer. With my movement, the deer snaps its head toward me and gallops away. Small rocks occasionally flew out from under his hooves. At least I would not be fully alone here. But where is here?
