Life wasn't so bad at Terminus. Ever since my sister, Char, went missing I have been a little iffy about everything. I've tried to run away to go and find her, but the people at Terminus are like family to me. Or at least they were. None of them seemed sad about Char's disappearance and that sorta freaked me out.
What freaked me out even more was how they were always talking about the cows. I had never seen one at Terminus, but everybody was always talking about how many we had left. We had about twenty five people living here right now. It wasn't a lot, but a couple cows weren't going to feed us much longer.
It was simple - living here. We woke up, did our chores, hung out with each other, maybe do some group activities, kept watch for other people. Go on some supplies runs maybe.
I sighed loudly as I got up from my bed. Peaking at the clock above my bed i see that it's 5:30 am. Same as usual. Everybody usually gets up 7:30 so I have two hours.
I groaned walking to my personal bathroom and brushing my teeth quickly. After that I grabbed two towels before heading to the showers. I took a relatively quick shower before heading back to my room to change. Thank God nobody woke up as early as me. It always felt as though I lived alone in the mornings.
I changed into one of my favorite summer outfits. It was high-wasted light and ripped jean shorts. A flowy, navy blue tank top with realistic light blue and white flowers printed on it. a grey sweater that I pulled up to my elbows. Grey converse and a white beanie. My green eyes and freckles always stood out when I wore this outfit. I never knew why.
I hummed in satisfaction when I looked at myself in the mirror. I was finally beginning to gain all of my weight back after barely eating for two months. I lost about twenty pounds and had gained about eighteen of it back. Just a few more pounds, Jade. A few more. I never liked being super skinny. I was ecstatic to finally be - almost - back to normal.
To me it always seemed a little odd that nobody else ever came here. It was a super safe place and we were friendly people. It was good for me and... never mind.
Flashback
"Why don't other people ever come to Terminus?" I asked Mary one day.
"I don't know, they might be scared of us. A lot of people aren't good people anymore, Jade." She flipped the cow meat on the grill.
"Oh. I just wish someone my age, or even around my age would come here. Sometimes it gets lonely being around all of these adults." We laughed.
"I know, Sweetpea. I'm sorry." The way she said 'I'm sorry' sorta gave me a weird feeling in my stomach. It was like she really meant it... like she was personally responsible. I tried to brush it off.
"Why would you be sorry? It's not your fault," I walked away after that and went on a supplies run with Crystal and Jonah.
End flashback
I have another hour or so before even Gareth wakes up so I figured I might as well go see these cows. I hadn't seen one in four years and in all honesty I wanted to see if they were real. I mean people always talked about them, but I've never even seen the damn animals.
As I walk over to where I'm almost positive they're kept I think that people really should be on guard/watch duty at all times, just incase people come and need us or need help or something.
