Long chapter. Haha sorry.

ALSO THIS IS THE SECOND TO LAST CHAPTER OF BOOK ONE

Tom and I checked every door in the building to see if anyone was in their rooms. No one was, they were all down at the dining hall. I made sure Judith was secure on my chest before we started running towards the hall. Tom and I barricaded the two exits and climbed the ladder on the side of the building to get on the roof. Once we were on top, I stared at the glass part of the roof and sadly sighed. You have to do this. It's the only way to stop Terminus. Jade, do it!

Quickly I held out my hand for a poison grenade and clasped my hand around it. Tom would be throwing the other one and we'd be saving one for emergencies. I kneeled down and picked up the biggest rock I could find. I threw it up in the air a few times, examining it and its weight. I looked at Tom who nodded once telling me to do it. I sighed and threw it as hard as I could against the sun roof.

It was the type of roof with four by four windows in it, so only one window broke - perfect. I heard a few screams and shouts when the glass broke, then a lot of feet running and screaming and banging. Then there were gunshots which I assumed were aimed at the doors and the high up windows. Even if they did break the windows, only a few people would be able to get out by the time the smoke set in. I pulled the ring off of mine and threw it in, Tom followed shortly. The poisonous smoke erupted from the grenades and started taking its victims. Screams were loud in the beginning, but died out with the people of Terminus.

"Let's go finish off the survivors," Tom suggested while starting to climb down the building.

In a few minutes we were back on the ground and looking for people that might have escaped the dining hall.

I looked to see the window of the hall broken and blood on the ground outside of the building. Someone fell out. "Someone's out here," I whispered to Tom. He looked at me and pulled out his gun. I slowly spun around so we were almost back to back, but we had about a foot of space in between us so that I could pull my bow back comfortably.

I scanned the space I could see fit anything that was moving. I couldn't see anything at all. "There's nothing out -" Tom was stopped by a knife being thrown at his head.

Shit. One more narrowly missed my torso. "Run!" I screamed. Just as I turned away I felt a sharp pain in my right lower arm. I looked down to see that the metal had gone all the way through it and was sticking an inch or two out. I yanked on it so I could bandage the wound, but we couldn't even find a suitable place to hide, yet alone a place for me to dress wounds. And how the shit was I supposed to keep Judith safe?

I thought back to everyone who was in the dining hall. Anyone who could throw knives.

"Fucking hell," I breathed out once we hid behind a huge tank. My mind raced as I tried to remember who could throw a knife that accurately. "Jasmine."

Jasmine was a twenty-year-old woman who had been at Terminus even longer than Char and I. She had an army dad just like me, but he dad trained her harder than mine did. Her weapon of choice was knives. She was one of the best I'd ever seen, if not the best. I guess she was a little loopy from the fall and the gas so she couldn't kill us yet. She would be great for the group, except for the fact that she was utterly violent. Sometimes I think that if the apocalypse didn't occur that she'd be a general in the Marines... or a serial killer.
