"Stella Rogers, I've been in love with you since the first time I layed eyes on you, and that was my third year in college. We've been dating for 6 years and I'm totally in love with you, will you do me the honors of becoming my wife?"
This is how it started.
"Where have you been?" Stella asked sitting at our dining room table which was covered in a white satin table cloth, and sitting on top if it was candles and dinner for two with soft music in the background.
"Work"I said, confused, I started to put pieces together, shit it was our 6 year wedding anniversary and I've been so caught up in my building project that I forgot about it.
"Shit, honey, I'm so sorry I've really been busy with this building project and my boss has been up my ass all month trying to put the final pieces together and-"
"You always say that Harvey," Stella snapped "You're always out going to work and hanging with a few work buddies while I'm at home watching our son, Mason, and carrying our second child. And I bet you forgot to bring home the thing I asked for."
"What thing? you know I forget a lot." I say getting more angry.
"The cheesecake." she says with her voice cracking a little. She's crying now.
"The thing you bought me on our first date, the thing we hate more than anything but bond the best over and you fucking forget it. If it wasn't for that cheese cake then we probably wouldn't be together .You forgetting about our cheesecake is like you for getting about our marriage."
"Baby don't say that, you know I can never forget about our marriage were in this together remember?" I say, starting to cry too.
"Do you think we can really make this work?" I say, grabbing her hand gently and pulling her close to me.
"I don't know," she says sniffling. "but it's worth it."
This is how we fixed it.
"So let me just read over what each of you get" our lawyers said to us "you both have split custody of your daughter and son, but Harvey gets both of them every other week." We've been separated for about 9 years now but we are finally getting our divorce fialized. My 11 year old son understands why, and he is accepting of it, my daughter on the other hand is confused and wonders if it's her fault.
"That seems okay with us." Stella said then glancing at me for agreement which I nodded in return. To be honest I am really happy we are getting a divorce because we are much better as friends than lovers. My job is going well. I have two buildings that I designed, built somewhere around the city. And a nice 2 bedroom apartment for me and my kids.
This is how we ended it
It's been about a year and a half since my 12 year old son stopped talking to me, and I don't know why. The day of the divorce he was fine, but everyday after that he didn't say much to me. Then it turned into a few years and mm hmms then to nothing. I've done everything I could, I apologized, I brought him things, and I got him help from a doctor, still nothing.
"Mason," I say from the kitchen hoping he would finally answer me. He looked up from his spot on the couch and didn't say anything.
"I made you some mac & cheese, your favorite." A smile spread across his face and he walked to the dining room table to eat it, but before he could, I grabbed it, "in order to have it, you have to say something to me" I say negotiating a deal.
The smile instantly faded, and he got up from the table and started walking to his room.
Defeated I spoke up "No come here, you can have it "
This was a challenge
It's been about a week since I lost my job, and I'm so behind on rent that I moved into my friend Byrant's house, and this was the week that I had my kids. I'm currently sitting on the couch looking for a new job.
"Daddy?" my ten year old daughter said while walking into the living room in her Pj's, with her stuffed monkey in a choke hold.
"Yeah sweetie?" I sigh and she says "are you okay? you seem upset" she pressed on.
"Yeah I'm fine, why are you up sweetie it's 10:30pm?" I sigh, I don't need to ask that because I already know the answer. She has been having nightmares, ever since the divorce she's been really restless at night.
"I had the nightmare again" she says, looking down at her feet. "the one with the dark shadow chasing me. I try to run but it's too fast and it takes me" she says starting to cry.
"Honey, it's just a dream, and Mr. Chuckles is here to protect you" I chuckle while poking her stuffed monkey causing her to giggle.
"What can Mr. Chuckles do to protect me?" she says while sitting down next to me.
"well, he can obviously fly with his invisible falcon wings" I say laughing at my self.
"Maybe he can scare the monsters away with a giant screeching noise" my daughter, McKenzie added causing us to burst into laughter.
"Mr. Chuckles is awesome." McKenzie whispered, looking striaght ahead with a smile on her face.
"You're safe here sweetie, nothing will get you."
little did I know I was gonna eat my words .
