The boy witnessed destruction
As his hazel eyes filled with hopeless tears
He used to be one to frolic and explore
But now he is one to cry and fearThere was a time of buoyancy
But this destruction only caused dread
When he was lost in his Bliss of the Past
He realized that his Reality was dead. For his father chose drugs and cruelty
And left him in a mess of ruins
He spoke, “How come you treat me as an animal?”
“Daddy don’t you see that I am human?”But his father up and left
And Sickness took his mother
And had Sickness left her be
The boy would have soon had a brother..The Hazel eyed teen witnessed repetition
As his heart beat too cold
He wondered if there was escape
Because this feeling was growing old. There was no chance of conviviality for him
For his friends and family did not exist
And his mood was all but ecstatic
And his mind was a bit of a twist. But one day he visited the past
A jocund memory that he and his mother shared
And when reality finally hit him
He realized that someone did care. And with that, the smile from long ago returned
And he began to actually live
He stayed very focused and careful
As he remembered but chose to forgive. The hazel eyed man witnessed happiness
As he grew old and kept a smile
He realized that letting go of the negative
Was definitely worth his while. He met his wife at a spring gala
And at first, he thought she was complacent
But soon they found that they loved one another
And never dared to find a replacement.Years later came his hazel eyed son
But his wife passed away at birth
Grief came and went slowly
But love came for his son more than anything on earth. He promised that he would cherish his son
And give him the love that his father never showed
He spoke, “You will never witness that kind of destruction my son,”
“For as long as I live, and forever you will know.”
