A/N I almost forgot to mention that this story was inspired by the story Love is Patient Love is Blind by @Sadron_Beriadan I highly suggest you go check their story out.

Over the next few days I stayed with Alice and did what I could to help her get better.  Luckily she had begun to breathe on her own without the support of the oxygen tanks but her fever had yet to go down making me think that man was right.  I begun pacing trying to decide what to do as I glanced over at Alice's sleeping form every now and then to see her curled in a ball.

I knew I wanted her to get better but I was afraid to take her out of the asylum in fear she would leave me or that they would try to separate us.  Sighing,  I ran a hand through my hair before sitting beside the bed and taking her hand in mine smiling at her.  My smile faded however when I realized how cold her hand was.

"Darling?  Wake up darling" I said softly but she didn't respond making grow even more concerned.  Knowing what I had to do,  I packed a bag with anything necessary and gently picked Alice up carrying her bridal style.

After exiting the asylum I found a truck parked outside and gently placed Alice in the passenger seat.  I covered her with a sheet to keep her warm and tossed the bag in the back of the truck before getting in and driving off.  I kept one hand on the steering wheel while the other held Alice's hand and I looked at her when she moved to see her slowly waking up.

"W-whats going on? " She asked quietly as she looked around and I kissed the back of her hand.

"I'm taking you to the hospital darling,  you're ill " I said softly as i returned my attention to the road.  About half an hour or so later we had entered a small town and I stopped when I came across a small cabin that seemed to be abandoned.  Doubting a town this small would have a hospital,  I pulled in towards the cabin and parked the truck.

Getting out,  I tried the door to find it unlocked and looked around seeing a fireplace on the far end of the room.  There was a door leading to a kitchen on the left and to my right was a single room containing a queen size bed and a few dressers.  It had a small bathroom connected to it and a single window.  I checked to see if the electricity and water worked,  sighing in relief when they did.

After inspecting the cabin I went back to the truck and grabbed the bag from the back,  tossing it over my shoulder before gently picking Alice up and carrying her in my arms.  I placed her on the sofa in front of the fireplace before managing to start a small fire inside of it to help keep her warm.

"Eddie? " Alice called waking up and looking around and I knelt down beside her holding her hand in mine.

"I'm right here darling. " I answered kissing her knuckles

"Where are we? "

"In a small town,  I managed to find an abandoned cabin that we can stay in.  I'm going to head into town to see if I can find someone who can help get you better darling.  I promise I'll be back as soon as I can. "

She nodded showing she understood and I kissed the top of her head as she smiled a little before closing her eyes.  A part of me didn't want her to sleep in fear she wouldn't wake up but I knew rest was the best thing for her right now.  Once she was asleep,  I stood and left shutting the door behind me quietly before starting the truck and heading into town.

I asked a few residents where I could find a doctor and I'm guessing my appearance frightened some because they ran.  I grew more and more irritated by the second with each person that ran until I finally was directed to the town's doctor.  I stopped at the man's home since it was where he seemed to work and knocked on the door rapidly, silently praying he would answer.  I was about to knock again when the door opened to reveal a man.

He looked to be in his late thirties and had short brown hair and blue eyes.  He was fit and a few inches shorter than me.  He wore black dress pants and shoes,  a blue shirt and a white coat.

"Can I help- good heavens what happened!? " He asked worried as he turned my head to take a better look at my rashes.  I moved his hand away appreciating his concern but slightly annoyed at the same time.

"I do require your help but not for me,  for my darling.  Please I've done everything I can. "

"Well what seems to be the problem? "

"I'll tell you on the way just come with me" I said and he nodded grabbing a bag before getting in the truck with me.

"Explain to me what happened,  it'll be easier for me to help that way. " He said and I sighed.

"My darling and I are from Mount Massive Asylum, now don't be afraid,  I won't harm you unless you hurt her... " I started noticing the nervous expression on his face.

"So you two are patients that escaped? "

"Yes however we mean no harm,  we just want to start our family. Anyways,  I let Alice go searching for supplies on her own and she was caught in an explosion in a lab caused by some of the other variants.  I managed to clear her lungs with some oxygen tanks and took care of her injuries yet she isn't getting any better. " I explained and he seemed to think about it for a moment.

"Well what are her symptoms? "

"Shes had a fever that despite giving her medicine for it,  it has yet to go down.  She says shes cold constantly but she's burning up.  She's also been sleeping quite a bit. " I answered as I parked the truck and he nodded.

"I'll see what I can do. " He said and followed me inside.
