maxine mayfield skated towards hawkin's high school, humming some up beat song she had heard on the radio before she had gotten out of her older stepbrother's car. today was her first day of school in hawkins and she wasn't in the slightest excited for it.
-
she reached the front entrance of the school, hopping off her worn skateboard that she had covered in dumb stickers and drawings so it was no longer neat and clean. she tucked it under her arm. and looked up, girls in bright sweaters and blouses whispered to each other whilst eyeing the new girl making the redhead scoff loudly. at least max didn't wear her grandmother's clothing, she laughed at the thought.she tapped one on the
preppy girls on the
shoulder "excuse me."the girl jumped with
a sudden "huh?". the girl looked genuinely frightened of max, like the fray of her jeans and bright colors of her shoes would rub off on her with that tap on the shoulder."can you tell me where the
office is?" the girl shook her
head quickly. "funny, you can't even show me where the office at your own school is" max smirked devilishly as the two girls furrowed their eyebrows and walked away.she turned her head to see a small group of boys eyeing her, as soon as her icey eyes turned in their direction, they quickly looked away. they didn't look away quick enough though, as max made her way over to the group.
"why were you losers staring at me?". a boy with light curly hair cleared his throat nervously "we weren't staring at you.. it's not like you're attractive or something."
max rolled her eyes "first you stalk me then you say i'm not attractive? i'm greatly offended!" she frowned sarcastically. "look that's not what we meant.. like we've never seen you around is all" a different boy with darker skin began before the palest one interrupted, "do you have any friends or something? like why are you talking to us?"
"seriously? you guys look like nerds i thought you'd be able to put two and two together. i'm new here.." all of the boys looked shocked at the way this attitude simply rolled off her tongue like nothing. the pale boy looked like he was going to shoot back, but max beat him to it, "look i don't care. just tell me where the office is."
"down the first hall, first big door on the left." the smallest boy squeaked out and max simply turned away without a goodbye.
max made it into the office and some old lady at the desk handed her a white sheet and told her to ask any of the students if she needed help with directions.
max made it into a classroom that looked like a science room. "oh! you must be maxine!" the teacher smiled and max sighed to herself looking around those boys were here, of course she was in this class with those dipshit boys and the preppy girls she already hated.
"actually.. it's just max" she looked around, trying to decide where she wanted to sit, even though she didn't really want to sit anywhere, she didn't want to be here. "well then hello ma-" the teacher was interrupted.
"IM SO SORRY IM LATE!" a girl with a curly brown bob ran to a seat next to the pale boy that max already didn't like. the girl's eyes were bright like you couldn't look at them and frown all at once, she had toned fair skin, dotted with a couple light freckles here and there, her lips were soft and pink, not like max's which were chapped where she had nervously bit them. she wasn't wearing a bright sweater or a blouse which made max smile to herself, she had on overalls with a white long sleeved shirt underneath.
the girl noticed the staring and smiled. "here you can sit in my spot, you should be near the front" she grabbed her things and stood, walking towards a chair in the third row.
"jane. you can uh.. sit here it's fine i'll move" the raven haired pale boy moved. "thank you michael." the teacher smiled and max just nodded, glad she didn't have to sit next to michael or whatever his name was.
that left the girl with fiery hair and the brunette with dreamy eyes next to each other, when she sat down their eyes locked like they just couldn't get enough of the other.
