Peter Parker x Reader

Summary: For months he was dodging and lying to you, avoiding you every chance he got until eventually, you snap and demand answers.

"So how late are yougoing to be tonight?" You ask without a trace of malice in your tone as youspeak into the phone, wondering whether or not it was worth him coming overwhen it was already so late in the evening.

But you couldn't blame him, not really. After all, he had a self-appointed obligation to protect every citizen in New York from any dangers that befell them; a job he always took seriously. But he was still just a teenager; he couldn't do the things the other Avengers could do like going on amazing missions 24/7 (as much as he wanted to) and lying was still something he was trying to perfect.

Because Peter had always been a terrible liar, even before he became the Amazing Spider-Man. Ever since you'd known him it had always been his downfall when it came to almost every situation from trying to bargaining his way out of a late-homework-detention to explaining his excuses for missing dates with you.

"Mr Delmar asked me to cat sit for him, Y/N, I'm sorry,"

It'd seemed strange to you that Mr Delmar would ask Peter to look after his cat when Murph usually just sat on the counter at the deli, but you didn't question it... the first time. It was only when Peter started missing dates and blowing you off almost every night for his new 'cat-sitting job' or for the Stark Internship that you began getting annoyed with him.

"Well how about I come help you look after him tonight?" You'd proposed, hoping to at least spend some time alone with your boyfriend.

"I-Uh... look, Y/N I don't think that'd be a good idea. Murph's kind of – uh, he's... SICK." He'd cleared his throat quickly after blurting the word out too loudly, getting excited by his own quick thinking all too easily, "Yeah uh I think he has one of those cat-worm things. Ned says there real contagious so you'd probably be best to stay away,"

Nodding your head in understanding, despite the sinking feeling in your stomach that filled you and the fact that peter couldn't actually see you, you'd said something about seeing him in school before hanging up the phone and resisting the urge to throw the device across the room as your rage consumed you.

How could he be so selfish? You'd thought to yourself, wondering how the sweet boy who you'd known for forever had suddenly changed as if overnight into a stranger. It was then that you'd made a vow to yourself to confront him in school the next day, deciding you were going to demand the truth from him as soon as you saw him.

Except he didn't show up for school the next day... or the day after that. You'd tried calling and texting him all day and begged for Ned to give you an explanation but he too had just lied to your face, telling you he had no idea before promptly walking away and pressing his phone to his ear, talking lowly to someone who you could only assume was Peter.

And that was when you'd felt your heart breaking. Every suspicion you'd had about Peter blowing you off seemed to become a reality after that conversation and you'd had enough. You'd left school that day and marched straight to Aunt May's apartment, tear after tear rolling down your face with every step you took.

You'd expected, or rather hoped that Aunt May would answer and tell you that Peter was just sick, maybe that he'd been sleeping for the past few days and hadn't turned his phone on. You'd hoped she would put your worries to rest and tell you everything was fine, maybe she would even tell you that you were just being silly and joke with you about how head-over-heels in love with you Peter was.
