By the time everyone got there, the party was in full swing. People talking, dancing...making out. Naturally, Stiles made quick work of attacking the food cart and Lydia still had duties to attend to so they kinda split up. Jackson and Allison found a nice spot in the corner and Danny went a-prowlin' for some hapless young lady or guy. Depending on his mood. Leaving Malia and I alone. "Nice. Lydia did a good job." I said. Trying my best to make small talk.
"Yeah. Looks good. Oh, she got the flowers she wanted." Malia noted.
"Yeah. She must be happy about that." I replied said. Malia nodded. "This is awkward, right?"
"Very much." Malia said.
"Yeah...Just checking. Punch?"
Scott asked.
"Sure." Malia said.
"Be right back." I left to get her a drink and she left to keep Stiles company at the food cart.
I saw Kira with another guy so that was weird. Whatever. What was even weirder was when she hugged and congratulated me. I went over to Malia and Stiles, confused.
"What was that about?" Malia said with her mouth full. I couldn't help but smile. "Why are you smiling?"
"Nothing..." I wiped crab puff filling from the corner of her mouth.
"Thanks...why was she congratulating you?" Malia asked. I shrugged. "Okay."
"Right? It was so weird." I said. Trying to make sense of the female mind.
"Be right back." Stiles ran off and talked to Lydia. Who then talked to the DJ...who announced that the next song was dedicated to Malia and I.
"What did you do?" I asked Stiles.
"Remember last week when you told me this was one of your favorite songs because it reminded you of Malia?" Stiles asked with a big grin.
"I told you that in confidence, blabbermouth!" I seethed through gritted teeth.
"Don't let a dedication go to waste. Go. Go go!" Stiles motioned the dancefloor.
"It's cool. You don't have to." Malia said. She sounded so disappointed.
"Let's do it. Come on." I conceded.
"You sure?" Malia asked. Her eyes lit up. She was so precious, it made me want to kick myself.
"Yeah. What's the harm?" I asked and took her hand.
"Okay but I have to warn you, I'm not very good and I might step on your toes." Malia warned.
"You do that anyway." I laughed.
"Keep it up and I'll do it on purpose." Malia said. She might have been joking but with her, I never knew.
We danced to Perfect by Ed Sheeran.

Malia POV
It was weird slow dancing with Scott.
Especially to this song (It was one of my favorites too, although I would never cop to it)
We were barely even friends.
But here we were.
And as much as I felt awkward because I knew Scott didn't really feel that way about me and him and Stiles were probably messing with me, I liked dancing with him. Being close. Maybe it was the girl in me but he was warm and smelled nice and I liked it. I thought I heard Scott whisper something that sound like I love you "What?" I asked surprised.
"Oh look, food!" That made more sense. Then he ran off in hot pursuit of the food cart. Leaving me standing there like an idiot. To make matters worse, Theo and his thot came over to ridicule me.
"Guess he couldn't wait to get away from you." Theo said.
"I feel sorry for you. Having to settle for a pity dance." Tracey chimed in.
I could easily take the two of them but I just didn't have the heart to fight (and I was looking all ladylike) so I just ran off.

Scott's POV
I lied. Why the hell did I lie?!
And here came Jackson to interrogate me.
"What the hell was that?" Jackson demanded.
"I left her standing there to get food." Well...It wasn't untrue.
"You embarrassed her and Theo and the homewrecking trollop finished her off. She just ran off pretending not to cry." Jackson said.
"Scott! What did you do?! We gave you the perfect setup and your only job was to not blow it." Lydia groaned.
"Now I have to wait until we're off school grounds to drag Theo."
Jackson asked.
"Don't you want her?" Stiles asked.
"Yes! Okay? I didn't know what to do when she heard something I said so I bolted!" I confessed.
"So go fix it!" They all said in unison. I was conflicted but I went off after her. Found her under the bleachers.
"Thought I might find you here." I said and sat next to her.
"I'm fine. Go have fun inside."
Malia said. "I know you didn't really want to be here with me tonight so you can go. Let me know when you're ready to leave." Malia hugged her knees. A clear indication that she was freezing. I moved closer to her and rubbed her arm to generate heat.
"I did." I said. She looked over at me.
"You left me!" Malia yelled.
"I panicked." I admitted.
"Why?" All these embarrassing questions.
"You heard me when I said I love you and I was embarrassed so I ran." I confessed to her. She turned red and looked away. But then she looked back at me. "I love you...Malia."
"Since when?" Malia asked.
"Maybe since always. I didn't start noticing up until a few weeks ago." I explained.
"I thought you hated me, dude."
Malia said.
"Oh I do. But at the same time.." I wiped a tear from her lashes. "I love you as much as I hate you.
You're pushy, abrasive, rude and you're a hot mess. But you make me smile. I think it's cute how you pretend to be all tough and like you don't care but you're actually a big softie. Your smile is the most precious thing in the world. And my favorite thing is that you don't realize how beautiful you really are. Inside and out." I couldn't believe what I just said but...it was out there. I really really wanted to kiss her in that moment but I didn't want to make things any more awkward, so I just ended up involuntarily biting my lip and turning away. But then the most wonderful thing happened. She turned my head and kissed me. She kissed me! I kissed back. It was awesome. Then it got better.
"I love you too." Malia said sweetly.
"Are you serious right now?" I asked.
"Mm-hmm." She nodded.
"Because you don't have to say it because__" Malia stopped me.
"Scott?"
"Huh?
"Shut up."
"Okay."
"Wanna make out?" Malia asked.
"Yes, please!" Like I was going to say no.
