'Just some eggs,' You thought to yourself, standing at the entrance of the little shop.
After running out of them while making a huge batch of cookies for your co-worker's potluck, you needed them desperately.
The nearest town besides your own was full of just monsters, and one human of course. The thought of them on the surface made your skin crawl.
You checked the time on your cell phone, it was 11:03pm. There wasn't any other stores open in your town, it was too late for it.
'A quick in and out...' You took a deep breath, entering inside. The bell the ring once you entered made you almost have a heart attack.
Luckily, there were only about two of three other "people" in the store. But where was the shop owner? You shook your head and looked for them in the produce center.
You felt a few pairs of eyes follow you around the store. You tried to brush it off.
There was two different types of eggs in store; grade A organic eggs, very very expensive, or there was...uh...? Snowdrake eggs? They looked small, like the size of quail eggs, and there were absolutely covered in blue dots. There were only two dollars.
Being a human, you picked the regular eggs that were completely out of your budget. You walked up slowly to the checkout area, still no one.
You rang a tiny sliver bell next to the register, turning your head left and right to see where they would come from.
When you turned your head back, "they" were already there.
"Hey." The entity said to you, a smile glued to its face, but a dull look in its eyes.
"Hello..."
The creature was a skeleton. His bones were pearly white and he was rather short, for a monster anyways. He was wearing lounge wear with pink-fluffy slippers.
"...are you buying?" His grin widened, as he lifted a...brow bone at you?
"Yes, y-yes of course." You nervously pulled out your wallet.
He glanced at the package of eggs for a second before looking back at you, "Y'know the Snowdrake ones are a lot cheaper? And they taste like normal eggs."
"I...uhh..."
He waved it off, "No, I understand. Humans don't particularly like monster products right?"
"N-No...I, don't know if my coworkers will...like them." You decided to throw a little white lie in there, even if he was an undergrounder, you didn't want to hurt his feelings.
When you looked at the counter, the eggs were already replaced.
"Kid, just believe me. The spots are egg-cellent." He winked at you while shrugging.
You cringed at how terrible his pun was, but ended up smiling anyway.
He spoke up again, "That will be one dollar and six cents."
"I thought it was two dollars?" You said to him, shaking a little.
"I decided to give you a little discount but of course you still need to pay the taxes." He held out his hand to collect your bills and coins. The skeleton wrapped them up in a generic plastic bag, it looked like it was stolen from other store...
"Your receipt is in there too." He said, already walking away from his post.
You were already out of the door, but decided to pop your head in one last time.
"Thank you."
