Concealed Secrets (Shadow x Reader)

--Sonic's p.o.v--
What she said hit me. He hated me,tried to kill me,and yet,he wanted to be my friend? That's shocking. His death was so sudden. He hadn't attacked lately because of some sickness according to (Y/n). She said she doesn't know what sickness he had,or how he got it. She told me something else that was also shocking to me.
"Sonic.." There's something I need to tell someone about.. " She said quietly,so only I could hear her.
"What is it?" I asked, surprised,and in the same volume as her,to make sure nobody heard the conversation.
She was trembling,and tears fell from her face. "I thought I was his own.. It turns out I was wrong.. He adopted me.."
That's what really hit me. I blinked twice,checking this was real.
She looked down,lost in thought. Lucia stood up. She had "the look" on her face.
"Uh oh.." I mumbled. I knew she hated secrets and would force us to spill them. She walked over,and put her hands on her hips.
"What's this about a secret?" She asked, in a bad cop way. The tone in her voice sent shivers down my spine.
"Can I tell her,(Y/n)?"
She nodded,wiping her tears away. I rubbed her head softly. "Thanks,(Y/n)."
I began to explain everything. Eggman's death,what caused it,and the fact Eggman adopted her. I can't say I blame her for being shocked. Hey,if I was adopted and wasn't told,I'd be as shocked and hurt as she was right then. Lucia also felt the same way. She was sympathetic to (Y/n) and tried to reassure her. "It's ok.." She'd say every time she started to cry. (Y/n) ended up using 7 boxes of tissues. I wasn't surprised when she had a headache and was thirsty from crying so much. I feel really bad for her. I guess Chris was confused too. His look on his face said it all. I explained everything and he nodded.
She has so many questions,yet has no answers to them. She said she wanted to go out and find answers,but we wouldn't let her in case Mephiles crept up on her and took her away from us. Who knows what he has planned for her?
She begged for us to let us outside,but we kept refusing. Finally,we came to an agreement.
"Ok (Y/n). On one condition," I said.
She was curious.
"Let us come with you,so nothing bad will happen to you."
She nodded,and we all set off. We visited many libraries,and made no progress to answering her questions. She noticed a book and pulled it off the shelves.
"The tale of Azaria?" She read.
Azaria. She doesn't know it yet. Nobody told her about the village. I guess it was for her own protection. But still. Azaria is part of mobian geography. Or maybe she didn't go to school. Who knows?
She opened the book and began to read it out loud. She read about what happened 16 years ago.
"An evil,twisted hedgehog known as Mephiles took this as his chance and broke into the celebration. He grabbed the queen by her shoulder,and shredded her dreams into pieces. The queen,still full of hope,handed her daughter to the king and told him to take her somewhere safe. A place where she won't know Mephiles and will be safe. The king took his baby daughter out of the village,and ran for hours. He was exhausted. He had nowhere to go,and it was freezing. He noticed a tall building up ahead,and with the strength he had left in him,dashed over there,and put the princess down. He fell to his knees,and felt something like class digging in to his shoulder. He sent out a scream as what happened to the queen happened to him,then passed out. Mephiles smiled with glee,and took the king back to the village,and decided to deal with the princess when she was older," she read. "The princess is still alive today,and questioning her identity. Her name is (Y/n)."
