[Roughly two to three more chapters before the first thing between you and Zack! I really wanted it to be sooner, but because I'm trying to keep all chapters below 3k words {which, this one failed at by 2k..} it keeps getting pushed further away lol
No canon divergence yet, but it's coming.. some time
I proof-read this and realized it sucked r.i.p.]

"What a stingy elevator – just take us all the way up instead of droppin' us off at each fuckin' floor..!" Zack was grumbling to himself, but you felt inclined to agree – you'd only been to three floors and you felt like you could sleep for a couple years after them. "Now we're on another fuckin' elevator hunt.."

"How fun." Your voice was laced with sarcasm as you walked over to the iron bars – they were sturdy, and didn't move at all when you tried to shake them. Well, fuck.

"There's no keyhole.." Rachel had come up to stand next to you, both of you staring at the door. The two of you poked around it for bit longer but didn't really come up with much of anything – the cameras tracked your every movement and there was no discernible way to unlock the door. Rachel might have been able to fit through the bars since she was so skinny, but sending her out onto this floor by herself wasn't something you wanted to do.

"You two still don't have it open yet? You're supposed to be the brains here!" Zack had been pacing restlessly the entire time behind you but had apparently gotten fed up with your lack of progress. At this point, you couldn't blame him.

"If you'd like to try to open the door, go ahead." You weren't trying to challenge him, but you could tell from the expression on his face that he took it as one anyway.

"Fine! Outta my way – I'll smash it open!"

"It's iron –" Rachel murmurs, voice soft, but it's too late – the sound of metal on metal is deafening and though you clap your hands over your ears it does nothing to get rid of the ringing in them. Thanks for that, Zack.

"Ow – fuck, that's hard! Why didn't you warn me, now my hands are numb!"

"I didn't think you'd literally take your scythe to it – why would you think iron can be broken by it but the stone on the floor below can't?" You counter, and he narrows his eyes at you and does that thing from before, where he leans in close to your face. It really was some sort of intimidation tactic, wasn't it?

"You -!" Whatever brilliant retort he has is cut off abruptly by a loud siren – you have no idea what it's signifying but Zack shouts something and drops his weapon, hauling both you and Rachel back a significant distance.

You hear the tell-tale sound of a gun's safety being clicked off, and suddenly bullets rain down on the spot you were just standing in.

Zack had saved your life. Again.

"Bullets.." Rachel whispers, and you almost don't hear her because a loud, maniacal laugh is suddenly echoing around the room – it seriously puts Zack's to shame. At least Zack's had some sort of child-like glee to it.

"Sorry the welcome party took so long! I guess I sort of dozed off watching your idiotic antics. Still, it's a wonder you survived! Especially you Zack – I always had a feeling you'd blossom into such a beautiful sinner! Oh, this excitement has me wide awake now!"

"I don't give a flyin' fuck about your sleepin' habits! Shut the hell up and let us through!" Ah, Zack, always the voice of reason.

A screen slowly descends towards the three of your from the ceiling – wow, high tech – and on it is the owner of the voice – she's... actually really –
